WEEK OF 10/02/2017 - P90X3 - ROUND 6 - WEEK 13

MONDAY - OCTOBER 9, 2017 - P90X3 - Isometrix

After the intensity of the last two weeks I was looking forward to something a little more tame. This is a tough workout for me. A lot of it is based on balance, which I'm generally poor at. Today. I was OK on my right leg at times, bit not so good on my left side. On the plank moves I've noticed it's my shoulders that are giving out in some of the moves. Overall, it went OK, but not great. I was able to hold the half moon thingy on my right leg for about 10 to 15 seconds at one point, so that felt good.

Time: 30 minutes

TUESDAY - OCTOBER 10, 2017 - P90X3 - Accelerator

There are a lot of times when I do this workout that I "dog" a lot of the moves. Today I didn't do that too much. It wasn't perfect by any means, but better than average. I guess I surprised myself a bit with that.

Time: 30 minutes

WEDNESDAY - OCTOBER 11, 2017 - P90X3 - Dynamix

Not too much to say. I really don't like the string of plank moves early on, as they really burn out my shoulders. Also, my balance was really, really bad, especially on my left leg when we were doing the Polka Plus move and the Front to Back Lunges. But I do like most of the other moves, particularly the few near the end where you're lying on you back.

Time: 30 minutes

THURSDAY - OCTOBER 12, 2017 - P90X3 - Pilates X

It went OK. Yes, just OK. This one never gets me excited. I don't hate it, but other than seeing it as a bit of a "day off", I just do it. I do understand the behefits of it, but I can never get the vreathing down, and I'm not flexible enough to do a lot of the moves to their full benefit. And admittedly right now, I'm just trying to finish the last few days of the round. I'm eating like crap again, so that's taking away a lot of my motivation, too. On routines like this, I'm not going to see any immediate gains, so I'm not putting a lot into them. That sounds pathetic, but that's how I feel today. Also, I just read that Beachbody will be discontinuing the online Super Gym because they want everyone to convert to Brachbody OnDemand for their workouts. I'm old school. I liked logging my workouts in the Super Gym. I liked seeing others online and seeing what workouts they were doing. I also like buying my workouts on DVD and tangibly owning them. I don't want to have to reconnect my TV or buy a laptop and then pay whatever a month to view them. I understand there's more workouts available there, but if I want one, I'll buy it. I'm not interested in doing Chalene Extreme.

Time: 30 minutes

FRIDAY - OCTOBER 13, 2017 - P90X3 - Decelerator

Last "strength" workout of the round, and not my favorite. I played golf this morning. Got home late afternoon, relaxed for about a half hour, then got into this one, just to get it done. It wasn't great. I couldn't get into the Cracker Pushups. I couldn't get into Superman or Bow. It was a mess. The balance moves were a disaster. I didn't dog it. I don't regret the effort. It just wasn't happening.

Time: 30 minutes

SATURDAY - OCTOBER 14, 2017 - P90X3 - X3 Yoga

Day 90, and that's a wrap! I like finishing Day 90 with a Yoga routine, as that's how the Original P90X did it. Today I wasn't flexible and I still can't balance well, but I still did it. I did the best I could. It's still a bit frustrating, but after all these days, that's all I can ask of myself.

Time: 30 minutes

SUNDAY - OCTOBER 15, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 204.8 (+0.8 lbd)
Body Fat: 23.4% (no change)

Ate like crap.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

The workouts went OK. I kind of just wanted to finish the round. I didn't eat well again.

THOUGHTS FOR THE ROUND

Overall, I gained 9.4 lbs and 2.8% body fat. Both are absolutely horrible numbers. I'm stress eating again. The first few months of the year I stuck to a plan (calorie count) and it worked, and I felt pretty good physically, but not mentally. I felt deprived and got tired of counting the calories. I want to enjoy things in life. I know there's a happy balance and solution there. I just have to find it. The workouts went OK. I enjoyed doing most of them. There were very few days when I just dreaded doing a workout. There are still ones I don't like (Triometrics, Decelerator), but because they're only 30 minutes, I can get through them. I'm feeling stronger. Someone commented the other day that I should be able to really hit a gold ball pretty far because of my physique, which felt pretty good. My shoulders, chest, and upper back are feeling stronger, as are my arms a bit. I can really feel the muscles in my triceps. I'll never look muscular in my legs, but I can feel the muscles in my quads are solid, especially noticeable during the two Complex Weeks. My balance is still horrible. I'm putting faith in that I'll actually be able to "find" it someday, but after 9 years of doing these workouts, I have to wonder if it's actually physically possible. My high arches cause my ankles to collapse in, which twists my knees in, which is pulling my hips in, and that all seems to be getting worse. I'm going to try and do some stretches to open my hips back up. I've lost a lot of flexibility lately. Some of it might be ageing, but I'm fighting that. I think a lot of it is from the weight gain, which is correctible. Despite all this, I love the program. I'm going to take a couple weeks off, then start something again. It may very well be another round of P90X3. I'm also considering a round of the original P90X, which I haven't done in a few years, a round of Hammer and Chisel, or maybe a round of Body Beast. We'll see. For now, I'm just going to relax.

WEEK OF 10/02/2017 - P90X3 - ROUND 6 - WEEK 12

MONDAY - OCTOBER 1, 2017 - P90X3 - Complex Upper

I had a real bad day at work. Feeling extremely frustrated and trapped at my job. When I got home I was in a state of depression like I hadn't been in in a long time. The last thing I wanted to do was this workout. I kept thinking of how I was going to even think about doing any plyo pushups. I thought seriously of not doing the workout. Eventually I just sucked it up and started it. Once I was into the workout, things were a bit more normal. I got in five full rounds with about four minutes left, and then I just relaxed until the end. I did feel better after getting it done.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 263; Avg Heart Rate: 126; Max Heart Rate: 150.

TUESDAY - OCTOBER 2, 2017 - P90X3 - Complex Lower

I did feel a bit better today, but I'm still way down. The workout went OK. It still tires me out, but I got it done, and once again, I feel better afterwards.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 263; Avg Heart Rate: 125; Max Heart Rate: 157

WEDNESDAY - OCTOBER 3, 2017 - P90X3 - X3 Yoga

I was looking forward to a day "off". This isn't really a day "off", but it felt like it. The workout went fine. My balance wasn't great, but it usually isn't.

Time: 30 minutes

THURSDAY - OCTOBER 4, 2017 - P90X3 - Complex Upper

Once again, I got five full circuits in, then rested the last 4+ minutes. I've only been able to get in about 4 pullups on each set, but they're all unassisted and are a weakness for me. I'd like to do more, but that's where I am now. I can feel the muscles in my back, so that's a good feeling. It makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something. On the lunges, I didn't jump again. I simply did very fast Military Presses with 25 lb weights, and I feel it toning my shoulders. I got all the pushups in. I'm not turning too far on the X Plyo Pushups, but my explosion has never been there. I'm doing the best I can. The Bird Dog Pushups are my least favorite move in the cycle. I'm not holding the crunch as long as they are sometimes, but I'm getting them all in, even though I went to my knees once or twice in the later rounds before finishing up.

Time: 30 minutes

FRIDAY - OCTOBER 5, 2017 - P90X3 - Complex Lower

This isn't as tough for me as Complex Upper because I seem to have better lower body strength, but no balance. I can feel the muscles in my quads after doing this routine a few times, so I know it's working. Even though it doesn't seem too hard, I'm usually gasping for air near the end of the third round, and I end up sweating like crazy. I think one of the reasons is that this one is non-stop for me, while in Complex Upper I'm getting a few breaths while doing less pullups than them. I used 25 lb weights on the Knee Drops and DS Double L's and 10's on the lunges, where I went straight up again because I'm uncoordinated on the bounding.

Time: 30 minutes;

SATURDAY - OCTOBER 6, 2017 - P90X3 - Pilates X

Another "healing" day. The same thing happened this week that happened last week. I started out real slow and stiff on this one. I loosened up as things went on, though. There's still a few moves I really don't like, like the Side Plank moves. Because of my lack of hip mobility, it's hard for me to move my leg forwards, backwards, sideways. and up and down while holding a plank, so most times I'm resting on my hip and not holding the side plank, I'm sure it's decreasing the effectiveness, but the mobility just isn't there.

Time: 30 minutes

SUNDAY - OCTOBER 7, 2017 - P90X3 - X3 Ab Ripper

Business as usual on this one. I got it done. For some reason I wasn't dreading doing it all day, as that happens sometimes on a Sunday. I was just thinking to myself that it wasn't that hard.

Time: 15 minutes

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 204.0 (+2,4 lbs)
Body Fat: 23.4% (+0.4%)

Let's face it. I ate a lot of crap this week. No excuses. A lot of stress eating, but I'm making a concerted effort to cut down on the soda consumption. I'm realizing it's causing me a lot of problems.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

Weight gain aside, which was my fault, I'd like to say something about these two Complex workouts. Complex Upper and Complex Lower, along with X3 Ab Ripper come on an add on disc that is not included with the Base P90X3 program. You have to purchase the disc separately and Beachbody has made it quite pricey. So pricey that I think a lot of people won't think it's worth the money. If the budget is tight I can understand that. However, if you're going to be doing X3 for multiple rounds, as I have, and will continue to do so, these Complex workouts will REALLY add something to your fitness gains. They really take things to another level. If you care about those benefits and can afford them, get them. I also want to say, "shame on Beachbody" for the price. If they really cared about people getting fit, they'd be included with the regular program. At the least, offer it for $15 to $20 or so, so most people will take advantage.
