P90X - ROUND 9 - WEEK 12 - Week of 1/28/2012

MONDAY - JANUARY 28, 2013 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps

I did OK. I increased the reps or weight on a number of the moves. I did three one-arm pushups on each side off my feet. I didn't go real deep, but got the arm bent past half way. On the negative side, I only did 30 Chair Dips (I usually do 32-35), and I only got through 18 of the Two-Twitch Speed Pushups (I can usually get in all 25).

Calories Burned: 545; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 160.

TUESDAY - JANUARY 29, 2012 - Plyometrics

Probably my last Plyo workout for a while. I made it a good one. I wasn't real energetic going in, but I went at it and got it done.

Calories Burned: 672; Avg Heart Rate: 132; Max Heart Rate: 164.

WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 30, 2013 - Back and Biceps

The last time I did this workout (two weeks ago) I bumped up my weights during the last half, and I felt great for days afterwards. I tried bumping them up even more on a few of the moves today. It worked to an extent. Again, my rep count went down a bit, but on a few of the moves my form was starting to suffer on the last few reps. I started the strip set with 40s. My 6th rep was bad, my 7th rep was horrible, and I ended up putting the weights down before finishing up my eighth rep. However, I regrouped, and finished up OK. Overall, I felt stronger throughout the workout. 35s were starting to feel easy on most of the moves. I did OK on the pullups, but my arms were starting to feel like jello on the last few sets, and I had a hard time keeping my grip on the bar because my hands were sweating so much, even with gloves on.

Calories Burned: 539; Avg Heart Rate: 126; Max Heart Rate: 161.

THURDSAY - JANUARY 31, 2013 - Yoga X

One thing I wanted to concentrate on was not trying to be perfect, something I realized that week. I also concentrated on my breathing, especially during the vinyasas half of the workout. While I've yet the have the "ride" Tony talks about at the beginning, it was a more enjoyable and relaxing workout. My balance seemed better, and I wasn't constantly looking at the time remaining in the workout.

Calories Burned: 605; Avg Heart Rate: 102; Max Heart Rate: 133.

FRIDAY - FEBRUARY 1, 2013 - Legs and Back

This was my last real "resistance" workout of the round, although Core Synergistics has some resistance. The legs exercises went as usual, but I was able to increase my pullups to 84. four more than last time. I feel I can do more in some cases, but my hands get sweaty, and I'm losing my grip. Once I'm down, I stop counting.

Calories Burned: 558; Avg Heart Rate: 120; Max heart Rate: 162.

SATURDAY - FEBRUARY 2, 2013 - Kenpo X

I felt sluggish with low energy going in. I was conscience of it, and tried to pick things up, but couldn't get the energy up to where I wanted it. One of those days. I did my best.

Calories Burned: 474; Avg Heart Rate: 112; Max Heart Rate: 142.

SUNDAY - FENRUARY 3, 2013 - Ab Ripper X and Weigh-In

Ab Ripper X
My last Ab Ripper X this round. I didn'y want to make the same mistake I made last week by stopping the Mason Twists early, so I finished with 75 today.

Calories Burned: 141; Avg Heart Rate: 103; Max Heart Rate: 148

Weigh In
Weight: 178.0; Body Fat: 22.9%
An increase of 2.9 lbs and .9% body fat. I didn't eat perfect this week, but I'm not sure where that came from. I drank a few more Diet Root Beer's this week, but I'm not sure it was all due to that. I do feel stronger, and think I look better if that's any consolation. I am a bit upset at myself for not having the same discipline with my nutrition / eating that I do with my workouts.

P90X - ROUND 9 - WEEK 11 - Week of 1/21/2013

MONDAY - JANUARY 21, 2013 - Chest and Back

Last time I have to do this beast for this Round. I did very well. 233 pushups and 32 pullups. The pushups are close to what I did the last 3 times, but I did 8 more pullups than 2 weeks ago, and it's twice as many as week 1. Overall, they're not outstanding numbers, but upper body strength is still my weakness, so I'm happy with the increase, and that's what counts. However, I also understand there is still room for a lot of improvement. I was totally exhausted during the cool down, but as I type this a few hours later, I feel like a million bucks.

Calories Burned: 531; Avg Heart Rate: 124; Max Heart Rate: 157.

TUESDAY - JANUARY 22, 2013 - Plyometrics

Not great, but not bad today. I felt energized most of the day, got home, felt a little tired, took a nao, and felt like sludge when I woke up. But I pushed play, and did it. I did notice my heart rate in the 150s in much of the 4th and 5th sets, so I was working.

Calories Burned: 613; Avg Heart Rate: 127; Max Heart Rate: 165.

WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 23, 2013 - Shoulders and Arms

Last week I increased my weights during the second half of Back and Biceps. I felt stronger all week. I've been in a bit of a rut with Shoulders and Arms, pretty much using the same weights for the last few rounds. I also was afraid I'd hurt myself if I increased the weights. Based on the Back and Biceps experience, I decided to increase my weights today. I increased them by 5 lbs on each of the weighted exercises (except Tricep Kickbacks, only because I didn't have time to adjust my Power Blocks before that move). My reps decreased a bit, and I turned myself from a 12 to 15 rep guy into an 8 to 10 rep person, but I survived, and felt great. I know I'm going to be sore for the next few days, but I also know I'm going to feel a lot stronger and empowered for the next week. A great workout for me today.

Calories Burned: 634; Avg Heart Rate: 127; Max Heart Rate: 161.

THURSDAY - JANUARY 24, 2013 - Yoga X

I tried to concentrate and make this a good workout, but I just got frustrated around the Warrior 3's because I couldn't hold my balance. My right leg got exhausted during the Half-Moons and I had to come out twice. I need to remember something Tony says during X2 Yoga, and that is you don't have to be perfect. I think keeping that in mind will make things more enjoyable.

Calories Burned: 685; Avg Heart Rate: 107; Max Heart Rate: 135.

FRIDAY - JANUARY 25, 2013 - Legs and Back

I used 20 lb weights on most of the weighted leg exercises, with the exception of using 30's on the Calf Raises. No problems wharsoever. Again, I felt strong on the pullups, and did 80, which is 5 more than last week. I'm very pleased. It seems I'm turning things up a notch on the 3rd phase of this round, and it feels really, really good.

Calories Burned: 597; Avg Heart Rate: 127; Max Heart Rate: 164.

SATURDAY - JANUARY 26, 2013 - Kenpo X

Probably my best Kenpo X workout in a long, long time. I felt great going in, lean, strong, and energized. I noticed my heart rate was in the 140's a number of times. The good eating is paying off.

Calories Burned: 585; Avg Heart Rate: 123; Max Heart Rate: 153.

SUNDAY - JANUARY 27, 2013 - Ab Ripper X and Weigh-In

Ab Ripper X
Not my best Ab Ripper. As usual, I did it from memorty while watching TV. I'm not sure I was concentrating on what I was doing as much as I usually do. I quit after doing 50 Mason Twists, just because I didn't want to do any more, then felt a bit guilty, and did 50 more.

Calories Burned: 95; Avg Heart Rate: 106; Max Heart Rate: 142.

Weigh-In
Weight: 175.1; Body Fat: 22.0%

No change on the weight and a drop of .1% body fat. Obviously, not big changes numbers wise, but I feel better, trimmer, and stronger, and not bloated. I ate pretty good this week. Very little junk - few small pieces of candy during the week. I did, however, eat two containers of nuts (mostly cashews) during the week, and I know those are high in calories. The fact that I ate better and feel better overrides the numbers on the scale.

P90X - ROUND 9 - WEEK 10 - Week of 1/14/2013

MONDAY - JANUARY 14, 2013 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps

Stupid me decided to grab something to eat shortly before my workout. Not a good idea, which is why I never do it. I had to stop once, about a third of the way through, because my stomach was upset, but got back into it, and finished it up strong. I increased my weight to 25 lbs on most of the tricep moves. I did a few less reps too, but those should increase over time. I also did all 25 Two Twitch Speed Pushups without stopping. The last for were hardly "fast", but I got through them.

Calories Burned: 551; Avg Heart Rate: 123; Max Heart Rate: 159.

TUESDAY - JANUARY 15, 2013 - Plyometrics

A pretty good workout. I've been trying to eat better lately, but I'm still cheating a bit here and there. I was in the midst of doing the firsr set of thr Run Squat 180 Jump Switches when I decided to make the eating committment. A weird time to do it, but that's when it hit me. If I got nothing else out of the workout today, that was enough.

Calories Burned: 625; Avg Heart Rate: 128; Max Heart Rate: 161.

WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 16, 2013 - Back and Biceps

I wasn't feeling well going into it. I've developed a cold, and hope it's not the flu bug going around. My strength simply wasn't there, especially early on, and I really had to push myself to get my reps up to where they'd been. In the second half I decided to up my weight on a lot of the moves from what I'd been using earlier this round. My reps went down a bit, but that's what usually happens. For the first time ever (successfully), I started the Strip Set with 40 lbs. The last two reps with 40s were shaky, but I did them, and then I finished the rest up strong.

Calories Burned: 548; Avg Heart Rate: 127; Max Heart Rate: 163.

THURSDAY - JANUARY 17, 2013 - Yoga X

I'm feeling a bit better than yesterday, but I was having a problem holding a few of the moves in the last third of the vinyasas section. Except for the Balance Postures on my left leg (again), everything went well.

Calories Burned: 668; Avg Heart Rate: 106; Max Heart Rate: 134.

FRIDAY - JANUARY 18, 2013 - Legs and Back

A very good workout. I upped my weight on most of the leg exercises from 15 to 20 lbs, and from 25 to 30 lbs on the Calf Raises. I also felt very strong on the pullups, doing 75. I'd only done 38 on the first week of this round, so it's almost doubled. I think one of the reasons I felt stronger was because I'd upped my weights on Back and Biceps two days ago. One thing builds off the other. I'm also still trying to eat better.

Calories Burned: 572; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 157.

SATURDAY - JANUARY 19, 2013 - Kenpo X

Still have my lingering cold, and haven't been eating as much as usual, so I was getting a liitle more fatigued than usual for Kenpo. Got through it OK though.

Calories Burned: 468; Avg Heart Rate: 111; Max Heart Rate: 140.

SUNDAY - JANUARY 20, 2013 - Ab Ripper X and Weigh-In

Ab Ripper X
72 Mason Twists

Calories Burned: 133; Avg Heart Rate: 106; Max Heart Rate: 142

Weigh-In
Weight: 175.1; Body Fat: 22.1 %

A loss of 2.7 lbs and .7% Body Fat. I'm very happy with both numbers. I concentrated on eating better this week. Aside from the cold I have, I feel better.

P90X - ROUND 9 - WEEK 9 - Week of 1/7/2013

MONDAY - JANUARY 7, 2013 - Chest and Back

I think I say this every time this workout comes up in the schedule, but I've been dreading it for days. A confession on today's workout: There were a few times I stopped short when I might have been able to do a few more reps on a pushup move or a pullup move. After all was done, I only did five less pushups (229) than I did last time, but I also did do 5 more pullups (24) than I did last time. I also only used 40 lb weights on the back exercises instead of the 45's I used the last two times, but I also did more reps on those exercises. So it wasn't a total failure, but just one of those days where I didn't push myself. I'm not going to beat myself up over it.

Calories Burned: 509; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 160.

TUESDAY - JANUARY 8, 2013 - Plyometrics

I felt pretty going in, simply because it wasn't Chest and Back. I thought it was a good workout. Not a big calorie burn, but I worked up a good sweat, and had my hands on my knees between a lot of the moves.

Calories Burned: 570; Avg Heart Rate: 125; Max Heart Rate: 157.

WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 9, 2013 - Shoulders and Arms

Another good workout. I didn't increase the weights in too many areas, but I did increase the reps on a number of them. I'm still tring to figure out where to increase the weights without hurting myself. There are still a few moves where I think an increase wouldn't be good. For some reason, I'm not getting a big calorie burn this week, but I'm feeling good.

Calories Burned: 561; Avg Heart Rate: 120; Max Heart Rate: 153.

THURSDAY - JANUARY 10, 2013 - Yoga X

Nothing too special about today's workout. The entire workout seemed to go faster than usual. My legs were real tired by the time I got to the Half-Moon move and I could barely get into the first one, but I concentrated more and did okay on the other side. I'm finding I'm really balancing well on my right leg lately, but my left leg balances aren't really coming around. I thought I found a balance point on my left foot on my last Yoga X session, but I couldn't get it back tonight. Another low calorie burn, but maybe that's a good thing, as my heart rate is lower.

Calories Burned: 588; Avg Heart Rate: 101; Max Heart Rate: 133.

FRIDAY - JANUARY 11, 2013 - Legs and Back

For some reason I was out of breath by the second exercise. Maybe not enough to eat today. Not a good sign, but I got through it. I did 69 pullups, which was 2 more than last time. That's a good sign.

Calories Burned: 522; Avg Heart Rate: 116; Max Heart Rate: 155.

SATURDAY - JANUARY 12, 2013 - Kenpo X

I was feeling good going in, but was on auto-pilot through much of the workout. Still a good workout, and feeling good afterwards.

Calories Burned: 440; Max Heart Rate: 109; Max Heart Rate: 142.

SUNDAY - JANUARY 13, 2013 - Ab Ripper X and Weigh-In

Ab Ripper X
I felt good throughout. I stopped at 50 Mason Twists, just because.

Time: 19:17; Calories Burned: 134; Avg Heart Rate: 105; Max Heart Rate: 141

Weigh-In
Weight: 177.8; Body Fat: 22.8%

An increase of 1.1 lbs and .3% body fat. A big disappointment. A few slip-ups eating-wise this weeek, but overall I concentrated on eating better. All I can do is keep concentrating on that, and it'll be OK. I know I certainly feel better.
