INSANITY: MAX 30 - ROUND 1 - WEEK 7 - WEEK OF 05/29/2017

MONDAY - MAY 29, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Cardio

Today is Memorial Day, so I had some hot dogs, macaroni salad, etc. I'm not going to beat myself up over it. It tasted good. I did the workout in the early evening, as usual. I wasn't feeling as sluggish as I thought I would after eating what I did. I didn't max out once again on this routine, but had to modify a few of the moves again because of my balance. Overall, I was happy with the workout.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 328; Avg Heart Rate: 133; Max Heart Rate: 161.

TUESDAY - MAY 30, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Power

One thing I promised myself I'd do with these entries was not to censor myself. I had a real rough day at work today, as a lot of them have been lately. I'm feeling totally overworked, underpaid,  and unsupported there. Most days I just accept things and move on. I realize there's a lot of people in much worse situations than mine. The workouts help me feel good about myself. Today, things really got to me. I wasn't really in the mood to do the workout, but I always do them anyways, and usually give my best effort. Today was no exception. In this routine there is a section of all plyo push-ups which is tough enough, but especially tough for me, because I've been struggling with them. This is the section I always max out at. I was doing my best, but it wasn't happening. The more it wasn't happening, the more frustrated I was getting, and finally in one of those push-up sets, the whole day just got to me, and I went down to my knees in tears. I was only there for a few seconds and was almost embarrassed, even though I was by myself, but it wasn't a good moment. I did recover and finish the set, but my spirit was definitely broken. I wish I could say that moment inspired me to suddenly see the light and push myself even harder, but it didn't. I just finished the workout as normal. I just needed to put it here.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 252; Avg Heart Rate: 119; Max Heart Rate: 143.

WEDNESDAY - MAY 31, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Sweat

I'm feeling better today. Not as overwhelmed with things as I was feeling yesterday. I also ate better today, much like I had been earlier in the year, so I at least controlled that today. Baby steps. One thing at a time. The workout went pretty well. I maxed out around the 20 minute mark on a move I just can't coordinate myself with, the In and Out Abs with One Arm Reaching out to the side move. I was all over the place on it. By the time I got to the last set I was really tired and could barely do any of the moves for any length of time, but I kept trying, which is what it's all about.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 325; Avg Heart Rate: 135; Max Heart Rate: 162.

THURSDAY - JUNE 1, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Strength

I had to be somewhere in the early evening, so rather than do the workout very late, I did it immediately when I got home. It's still tough, but I did OK.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 268; Avg Heart Rate: 124; Max Heart Rate: 150.

FRIDAY - JUNE 2, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Friday Fight Round 2

This is brutal, but I'm hanging in there. Even on the burpees, which I think he's throwing in there just to kill us.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 303; Avg Heart Rate: 129; Max Heart Rate: 145.

SATURDAY - JUNE 3, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Ab Attack: 10 and Pulse

I'm getting through both of these OK. Nothing really eventful on either workout.

Ab Attack: Time: 10 minutes; Calories Burned: 77; Avg Heart Rate: 116; Max Heart Rate: 156.
Pulse: Time: 20 minutes; Calories Burned: 128; Avg Heart Rate: 111; Max Heart Rate: 129.

SUNDAY - JUNE 4, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 185.6 lbs (-1.2 lbs)
Body Fat: 19.3% (no change)

I'm going in the right direction again.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

It's good to see some weight loss two weeks in a row, after a few uneven weeks. I'm still enjoying the workouts. They're tough, but I'm not dreading them. I'm almost looking at them as a challenge, to say to myself: "look at me and what I'm able to do."

INSANITY: MAX 30 - ROUND 1 - WEEK 6 - WEEK OF 05/22/2017

MONDAY - MAY 22, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Cardio

This one is tough, but for some reason I don't find it as tough of some of the other workouts, certainly none of the Month 2 ones. I got all the way through it without maxing out. I did get a great calorie burn on this one, though.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 350; Avg Heart Rate: 140; Max Heart Rate:166.

TUESDAY - MAY 23, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Power

Outside of a few set of pushups, this one is do-able for me. The leg section at the beginning isn't too bad, nor is the core section. I even got in almost all of the burpees at the end. I'm making progress, and still enjoying the workouts.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 238; Avg Heart Rate: 117; Max Heart Rate: 141.

WEDNESDAY - MAY 24, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Sweat

I wasn't dreading the workout today, but I was respecting it going in. I is extremely hard, but I was happy with my effort. I maxed out around the 19 minute mark, then a lot of times after that. The last two circuits seem to be harder than the other ones. One thing I'm really happy with is the one arm "punch" burpees, where I don't feel too much out of control with just the one hand on the floor.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 331; Avg Heart Rate: 134; Max Heart Rate: 161.

THURSDAY - MAY 25, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Strength

I guess my question to myself is why are these pushup sequences so hard for me. I can do straight pushups with no probleb, but when I have to move or slow things down, I really struggle a lot. Sometimes it's hard to get even eight or nine in without my arms trembling like crazy. I'm thinking it is because they are slower. I know in P90X when I do the Two Twitch Speed Pushups (fast, then slow), I really have a hard time. I didn't have too much trouble with the leg and core moves today, but the pushups and tricep moves killed me.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 234; Avg Heart Rate: 116; Max Heart Rate: 136.

FRIDAY - MAY 26, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Friday Fight Round 2

Last week I almost made the comment that I didn't think I'd ever get through this routine without maxing out, but I didn't because I thought that would be defeatist. Today I saying that I don't think I'll ever get through this routine with out maxing out, and I'll further that by saying I don't think anybody can get through this routine by maxing out. It's too hard. Aside from two 30 second water breaks, it's non stop. One minutes for each move with no breaks in between, and there are very few moves that I'd consider to be "easy". I maxed out today just short of seven minutes, during the last few seconds of the Floor Hops. I thought to myself "I only had a few seconds to go", but in reality I would have maxed out early on the next move anyways. I 'm not sure I made it through too many moves without stopping for a few seconds. Very challenging, but very humbling. A very good routine.

Time" 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 322; Avg Heart Rate: 136; Max Heart Rate: 155.

SATURDAY - MAY 27, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Ab Attack:10 and Pulse

Nothing of note on either routine, other than when I'm done I can really feel it in my abs. I don't know which routine is causing it, or if it's a combination of both, but it feel good.

Ab Attack: Time: 10 minutes; Calories Burned: 75; Avg Heart Rate: 111; Max Heart Rate:142.
Pulse: Time: 20 minutes; Calories Burned: 115; Avg Heart Rate: 108; Max Heart Rate: 128.

SUNDAY - MAY 28, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 196.8 (-1.2 lbs)
Body Fat: 19.2% (-0.3%)

Back on track.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

I'm still not committing to eating with the calorie deficit like I was earlier in the year. I'm still logging what I eat, but it's becoming a pain in the ass, maybe because I know I'm a bit burned out just thinking about it. There was a point where I felt eating this was was easy, but I no longer feel that way. To be honest, I'm feeling deprived, and it's not making me feel happy. The workouts are going pretty good. Very tough this month, but I'm doing my best and getting through them OK. I'm happy with the weight loss, but don't want to fool myself. I'm not consistently sticking to my plan, so I didn't know I was going to have the loss. When I'm stcking to the plan, I know I will.

INSANITY: MAX 30 - ROUND 1 - WEEK 5 - WEEK OF 05/15/2017

MONDAY - MAY 15, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Cardio

This is the start of month two, and the workouts are supposed to be a bit harder. I had sampled them about 5 weeks ago, before I started to do the program, so I'm not going in totally blind. I had remembered this routine not being too much harder than the month one workouts, and it really wasn't. There was one move I couldn't do without modifying (the one where you're balancing on one leg, leaning out, and bringing your arms in and out), but other than that I was OK.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 302; Avg Heart Rate: 130; Max Heart Rate: 157.

TUESDAY - MAY 16, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Power

I looked at my log from when I did this a few weeks ago and saw it was tough, and that I'd really struggled with it. I was dreading the pushup sequence. I did struggle with the pushups, and maxed out during that sequence, but did much better than I thought I would. I didn't have too many problems with the rest of the moves, including the burpees at the end. Overall, I was not perfect, but very pleased with my effort.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 242; Avg Heart Rate: 119; Max Heart Rate: 151.

WEDNESDAY - MAY 17, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Sweat

At the end of this workout Shaun collapses on the floor and says it's the toughest workout he's ever taught. It's definitely brutal because of the combinations of moves. Usually, there is only one tough move out the a three move circuit. In this one, there's often two, so it's tough to recover, and even tougher mentally.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 299; Avg Heart Rate: 129; Max Heart Rate: 152.

THURSDAY - MAY 18, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Max Out Strength

I got concentrated and got through it OK. I still have problems with some of the pushups. Before I started I checked my notes from the first time I did it a few weeks ago and saw there were two sets of pushups, but the last set was more tricep moves than actual pushups. Still not easy though.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories  Burned: 250; Avg Heart Rate: 120; Max Heart Rate: 148.

FRIDAY - MAY 19, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Friday Fight Round 2

Very tough workout, as advertised. 60 minute moves with very few breaks. Lots of burpees interspersed throughout. I salute anyone that can get through this one without maxing out.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 322; Avg Heart Rate:133; Max Heart Rate: 161.

SATURDAY - MAY 20, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Ab Attack:10 and Pulse

I did these in the early evening and felt really good and refreshed on both workouts.

Ab Attack- Time: 10 minutes; Calories Burned: 72; Avg Heart Rate: 113; Max Heart Rate: 153
Pulse - Time: 20 minutes; Calories Burned: 135; Avg Heart Rate: 113; Max Heart Rate: 131

SUNDAY - MAY 21, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN
Weight: 188.0 (+0.6 lbs)
Body Fat: 19.5% (+0.1%)

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

The workouts this week were definitely tougher than Month 1, but I thought I handled them pretty well. I'm losing my focus on my eating and am starting to plateau on my weight. This is affecting my thought process negatively and I'm finding myself eating things I probably wan't eating a few months ago. It's not critical yet.

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

INSANITY: MAX 30 - ROUND 1 - WEEK 4 - WEEK OF 05/08/2017

MONDAY - MAY 8, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Cardio Challenge

Last week of the Month One routines. I did OK. Almost made it all the way through before maxing out.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 345; Avg Heart Rate: 133; Max Heart Rate: 155.

TUESDAY - MAY 9, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Tabata Power

Not much to say. I still think this is the easiest workout of the bunch. The only moves that really caused me to struggle were the plyo pushups, but I got through them.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 260; Avg Heart Rate: 120; Max Heart Rate: 165.

WEDNESDAY - MAY 10, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Sweat Intervals

This might be my favorite of the Month 1 workouts. I find that of the 3 moves in each section, only one is really tough, and that's usually the plank move. Keeping that in mind helps get me through each section easier, as a lot of this is a mind game as Shaun says. I got all the way through today without maxing out. On the other end of the spectrum, my eating is starting to take a turn for the worse. I'm feeling hungry all the time and not sticking to my caloric intake limit every day. A lot of what I'm eating is empty calories, and a lot of that is caused by stress. I realize I need to break the cycle and control it, which I'm sure I'll be able to do. I've come a long ways this year. I'm feeling much better, am able to do more, and don't want to backslide.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 339; Avg Heart Rate: 135; Max Heart Rate: 164.

THURSDAY - MAY 11, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Tabata Strength

My eating is still off, and I'm feeling sluggish. Too much diet pop is the root cause. The workout wasn't great. I'm still struggling with the pushup sections. I'm getting through them, but think I should be doing better. I maxed out at the same spot as last week, at the start of the pushup knee taps. I just have nothing left when I get to that point. I still have some work to do. I'm looking forward to playing some golf tomorrow. A well deserved, and much needed, day off of work.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 288; Avg Heart Rate: 126; Max Heart Rate: 150.

FRIDAY - MAY 12, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Friday Fight Round 1

This was the last of the main workouts for month one. I didn't finish real strong. I played golf earlier today. My legs were tired when I got home, and I hadn't eaten a lot. I was felling sluggish going in. During the first minute of the warm up I strained my right leg a bit near the side of my knee. I finished up the warm up by modifying and not jumping too much. During the workout I wasn't going all out because I was afraid of straining it more, plus my energy and determination weren't there. I maxed out in the 12 minute area, which is about 10 minutes sooner than last time.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 318; Avg Heart Rate: 131; Max Heart Rate: 162.

SATURDAY - MAY 13, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Ab Attack:10 AND Pulse

Both workouts went OK. Not much to say on either, but I can feel the tightness in my abs afterwards.

Ab Attack: 10
Time: 10 minutes; Calories Burned: 69; Avg Heart Rate: 106;  Max Heart Rate: 138.

Pulse
Time: 20 minutes; Calories Burned: 126; Avg Heart Rate: 112; Max Heart Rate: 142.

SUNDAY - MAY 14, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 187.4 (-0.2 lbs)
Body Fat: 19.4% (-0.4%)

I ate poorly the first half of the week. I tried to right the ship the last few days. I'm encouraged by the Body Fat drop.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

As I said last week, my motivation seems to be lacking because my weight is plateauing. It's more than about weight though, and I know that, but it's one of the numbers I use to measure things. I do know my pants are fitting much more loosely, so that makes me feel good.

Tuesday, May 2, 2017

INSANITY: MAX 30 - ROUND 1 - WEEK 3 - WEEK OF 05/01/2017

MONDAY - MAY 1, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Cardio Challenge

I'm starting to get burned out a bit. The workouts don't seem to be as exciting and fresh to me as they were, but it still went well. I'm modifying a bit in the warm-up because it's taking a toll on my ankles and calf muscles, but other than that, I'm doing the best I can. I maxed out real late in the workout. Around the 27 minute mark, I think.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 332; Avg Heart Rate: 132; Max Heart Rate: 159.

TUESDAY - MAY 2, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Tabata Power

I did OK, but I've had better efforts. I maxed out earlier than I had before. Around the 14 minute mark, doing the Fast Power Jumps. My knees and ankles were hurting and I just didn't feel like pushing through like I had in the past. Everything else seemed to go OK. As for the burnout I've been feeling, I think a lot of it is coming from the weight loss process. I have to concentrate on what I'm eating (and what I'm not eating), and it's getting to me a bit. The weight gain last week, even though I know it was a temporary setback,  put a damper on things a bit, and I'm feeling like I don't care as much. It's just something where I just have to push through and trust the process.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 235; Avg Heart Rate: 116; Max Heart Rate: 144.

WEDNESDAY - MAY 3, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Sweat Intervals

A much better effort today. I didn't even officially max out today. I was going a bit slower on some of the moves than they were, but not much slower. I was pleased. Also,, a major milestone. I tried this program in early 2015 and quit after 2 weeks and 2 days. Only program I've ever quit. Today I passed that 2 weeks and 2 days!

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 331; Avg Heart Rate: 132; Max Heart Rate: 158.

THURSDAY - MAY 4, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Tabata Strength

I wasn't dreading this one today, but I wasn't really looking forward to it either, as I really struggle with the pushup sets for some reason. The last two times I maxed out around the 11 minute mark doing the low hold Diamond Pushups. Today I realized you're supposed to be doing them on your knees, which I hadn't been. With that change, I got through them today. I finally maxed out at 23:30 (can't remember the move). Overall, it wasn't a great effort, because I just wasn't into it today, but I've had worse.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 285; Avg Heart Rate: 123; Max Heart Rate: 148.

FRIDAY - MAY 5, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Friday Fight Round 1

I got through it OK.Even though I know I'm doing the right things, and it was a blip on the radar, I'm still bummed about last week's weight gain, and it's taking a bit of my motivation away.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 326; Avg Heart Rate: 132; Max Heart Rate: 159.

SATURDAY - MAY 6, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Ab Attack: 10 / Pulse

Both workouts went well.

Ab Attack - Time: 10 minutes; Calories Burned: 69; Avg Heart Rate: 105; Max Heart Rate: 142.
Pulse - Time: 20 minutes; Calories Burned: 136; Avg Heart Rate: 111; Max Heart Rate: 130

INSANITY: MAX 30 - Sweat Fest

I was looking to burn off some more calories and energy so I pulled this one out again around 10 pm. I liked it the last time I did it two weeks ago. For some reason, it didn't seem as tough, but it still made me sweat,

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 289; Avg Heart Rate: 123; Max Heart Rate: 152.

SUNDAY - MAY 7, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 187.6 (-1.2 lbs)
Body Fat: 19.8% (+0.1%)

This might have been  my body correcting itself from last week's gain, because I slacked off the the eating a bit. Body Fat increase probably reflects that a bit.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

As I said on Friday's entry, I was totally thrown off by last week's wight gain and just lost mt motivation. I'm expecting losses every single week, and when they don't happen it bums me out a bit. This week's weight loss didn't even feel like a victory.
