INSANITY: MAX 30 - ROUND 1 - WEEK 11 - WEEK OF 06/12/2017

I finished the eight week Max 30 schedule last week, but I don't feel really done. Many of the workout programs I do are on on 13 week schedule, so that's what I'm going to do here. Before I "officially" started the 8 weeks, I'd done 2 weeks of the program as sort of a recovery period after my last P90X3 round. The plan wasn't to get into Max 30, as I tried it several years ago for a few weeks, and stopped, because I hated it. However, during that recovery period I threw a disc in to see what I could do, then another disc, and eventually did all the Month One and Month Two workouts during those two weeks. I ended up liking it and did the eight weeks. So I've really done ten weeks already. I'm going to do another week of the Month One discs, then another of the Month Two discs, then a week of the bonus workouts I bought, most of which I haven't tried out yet. So, I'm calling this Week 11. I'm also interested to see if the Month One workouts will seem to be a lot easier now that I've gone through the Month Two workouts.

MONDAY - JUNE 12, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Cardio Challenge

The first thing I noticed is all the "jack" type moves in the warmup. These weren't so prevelent in Month Two. These moves kill my knees, ankles, and calf muscles, and are one of the reasons I was never a big fan of Shaun's workouts. However, after the warmup, they were few and far between. I maxed out earlier than most of the times I did this in Month One, but it was during the Suicide Burpees, and I just didn't push through.

Time: 30 minutes: Calories Burned: 314; Avg Heart Rate: 131; Max Heart Rate: 164.

TUESDAY - JUNE 13, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Tabata Power

I remembered that this seemed to be the easiest workout of month one, and I actually went all 30 minutes a few times without maxing out. I did the same thing today. The 20 seconds "on" went by quickly, and this thing almost seemed like a joke after doing month two. However, my range of motion isn't real great on some of the moves, like the split lunges, so I'm not going to say I was better than anybody on the video. I got through the pushup section without too many problems, surprising myself a bit. Despite what seemed like a breeze workout, I was sweating like crazy at the end, so I guess it wasn't that easy.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 238; Avg Heart Rate: 117; Max Heart Rate: 156.

WEDNESDAY - JUNE 14, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Sweat Intervals

A rude awakening today. I've been eating was above my caloric limits the last few weeks. I'm always hungry. I've been drinking way, way too much diet soda too. Even though I know it's not good for me, but zero calories, right? Today it all caught up to me. Not so much the eating, but the soda and the caffeine. The last few times I did this workout I got through all 30 minutes without maxing out. Today, my knees and calf muscles were killing me from Monday, so I modified the first ha;f of the warmup because I couldn't do the bouncing up and down of the "jack" moves. I forced myself to do them the second time around. During the workout I was feeling really sluggish and was only going at 70% to 80%, but I kept moving. I finally gave way during the last set, then went to my knees for about 5 to 10 seconds because I was spent. I finished up OK, but didn't feel very good about myself. I should have more control about what I'm putting into my body. So, maybe this was a good day!

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 311; Avg Heart Rate: 129; Max Heart Rate: 156.

THURSDAY - JUNE 15, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Tabata Strength

I'm still feeling sluggish. Had some birthday cake at work today, and another Diet Pepsi later in the day, because I was stressed. I was aware of the situation and the ramifications, but I just weakened. Again, I was only going at about 75% effort. My legs are still sore and I didn't feel like starting out with Diamond Jump Burpees followed my more Diamond Jump variations. I did OK on the first set of pushups, but the second circuit of them got me. I'm disappointed in myself. I'm looking forward to taking the day off work tomorrow to play golf at one of my favorite courses, and I'm looking to relax and put things in perspective.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 268; Avg Heart Rate: 123; Max Heart Rate: 145.

FRIDAY - JUNE 16, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Friday Fight Round 1

I took a nap when I got home from golf, and. I felt refreshed going into the workout. Things went well from the start. I was able to do all the "jack" moves during the warmup without too many problems, which was a step up over the last few days. I enjoyed the workout, mostly because I like most of the moves. I hadn't remember feeling that way the first time around.

Time: 30 minutes; Calories Burned: 318; Avg Heart Rate: 131; Max Heart Rate: 153.

SATURDAY - JUNE 17, 2017 - INSANITY: MAX 30 - Ab Attack:10 and Pulse

Both went well.

Ab Attack: Time: 10 minutes; Calories Burned: 79; Avg Heart Rate: 114; Max Heart Rate: 156.
Pulse: Time: 20 minutes; Calories Burned: 132; Avg Heart Rate: 112; Max Heart Rate: 149.

SUNDAY - JUNE 18, 2017 - Rest

SUNDAY WEIGH IN

Weight: 178.6 (+0.4 lbs)
Body Fat: 19.5% (no change)

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

Month One's workouts were supposed to be easier, and maybe they are a bit, but they were still very challenging to me. I had the battle with the diet soda earlier in the week which didn't help, but hopefully it's a learning experience / warning. The weight gain wasn't unexpected, as I've totally lost control of my calorie counting, which I'd done earlier in the year. I'm always hungry and grabbing something that's probably not the healthiest alternative is becoming the norm. Honestly, I just don't feel like fighting with it anymore. Life's too short to be worried about whether I ate a donut or not.
