My entire Hybrid schedule is on the April 6, 2013 entry.
MONDAY - MAY 27, 2013 - P90X+ - Upper Plus
Today is Memorial Day. A Thank You all the veterans that have served our country, including my father who passed away 3 months ago today. Miss you and Love You Dad!!
I got the workout done in the morning so I could relax the rest of the day. This routine is an absolute beast. I hadn't done it since December 2011. From what I can tell from my previous worksheets, my numbers were a little less than back then, but this is the first time I've done it without taking any breaks. With this workout, that can make a big difference. I used 25 lbs on all the bicep exercises and maxed out my reps. I was good on the pushups, and even felt stronger than usual on the pullups. After last week's disaster, I'm looking to make this a good week.
Time: 41 minutes; Calories Burned: 413; Avg Heart Rate: 124; Max Heart Rate: 158.
TUESDAY - MAY 28, 2023 - P90X+ - Interval X Plus
My stomach was a bit upset from something I ate at lunch today, so I was a bit timid on some of the earlier moves. After five or six moves I was OK. I got a good sweat and exhausted myself a few times, which I think is the point of this workout. After all this time, I'm still searching for better choices in my eating. I think that's my main problem. I just don't give myself good alternatives, and often grab whatever is close or convenient.
Time: 44 minutes; Calories Burned: 450; Avg Heart Rate: 125; Max Heart Rate: 202.
WEDNESDAY - MAY 29, 2013 - P90X+ - Total Body Plus
This is one nasty workout, and for the first time ever I did it without hitting the pause button. I looked at my old worksheets and in most cases I was taking 10 to 15 minutes of "pause" time to catch my breath. This thing starts with a long warm up that can tire you out, and then the actual workout begins with six moves that are killers. Except for one 30 second break mid-way, there is almost no time in between moves (maybe 10 seconds, tops). It's almost cruel, but I got through it.
Time: 45 minutes; Calories Burned: 504; Avg Heart Rate: 130; Max Heart Rate: 154.
THURSDAY - MAY 30, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Fountain of Youth (Yoga)
I can't believe I haven't done this workout since November 2012. I tried something new tonight. I have high arches and my feet and ankles tend to roll in, making balancing very tough. The other day I tried lifting my front big toes, which I found locked my ankle into place, and stopped the foot roll. Doing that tonight gave me much better balance. It wasn't perfect, because I was still getting used to it, but it does give me something to work at. Overall, the entire workout went well. I felt more relaxed than usual. Maybe it's because I took the day off tomorrow to play golf at one of my favorite courses.
Time: 47 minutes; Calories Burned: 334; Avg Heart Rate: 105; Max Heart Rate: 132.
FRIDAY - MAY 31, 2013 - P90X - Core Synergistics
I did a lot of walking on a very hilly golf course today in very high heat. When I finally got home after running a few errands, I was too hot and tired to even take a shower. I didn't want to be thinking about doing the workout any longer than necessary, so after about an hour I just jumped right into it, even though I was still really tired. I did OK. The only thing I held back on a bit were the Dreya Rolls. I usually get 14 in, Today I only did 10 because my hamstring was starting to cramp up. I burned a lot more calories than usual. I noticed my heart rate when I started was at 89 when it's usually around 69 when I start a workout. I'm sure my body was working harder because it was so tired, therefore the increased calorie burn. Whatever the case, I'm glad I got it done early. Now I can enjoy the rest of the evening and look forward to the weekend.
Time: 57 minutes; Calories Burned: 657; Avg Heart Rate: 133; Max Heart Rate: 163.
SATURDAY - JUNE 1, 2013 - P90X+ - Kenpo Cardio Plus
This is probably my second favorite workout, behind Cardio Confusion: Mason's Choice (One on One series). Going in, my legs felt heavy and I felt sluggish in general. During the first half of the workout I wasn't crisp with my moves. As things progressed, I got a little better. By the time I was done, I was drenched in sweat and felt really good.
Time: 41 minutes; Calories Burned: 369; Avg Heart Rate: 115; Max Heart Rate: 139.
SUNDAY - JUNE 2, 2013 - P90X+ - Abs/Core Plus and Weigh-In
ABS/CORE PLUS
I've never been a big fan of this routine. I hadn't done it sine December 2011, so I was a bit rusty on a few of the moves, and actually had to wait a few seconds to see what they were doing on a few. I'd never done the entire routine without taking breaks, but I did today, and didn't have any problems. I even worked up a bit of a sweat.
Time: 21 minutes; Calories Burned: 196; Avg Heart Rate: 118; Max Heart Rate: 212.
WEIGH IN
Weight: 175.4; Body Fat: 22.4%
A drop of 2.4 lbs and .4% body fat. A big drop on both numbers. I'm very happy with it. After last week, I concentrated more on eating a bit better. It brought me back to where I was 2 weeks ago.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
I'm obviously happy about the weight loss. I'm also happy I got through all these routines without taking any breaks, which I'd never done before. The pace of these workouts is extremely fast. There's virtually no down time, and it makes a big difference. It's obvious my stamina and mind-set is better than December 2011, when I last did most of these workouts. Now the big thing: I'm sore as hell. That's a good thing, but I'm still sore as hell.

HYBRID - WEEK 6 - P90X2 (Phase 2) - Week of 5/20/2013
My entire Hybrid schedule is on my April 6, 2013 entry.
MONDAY - MAY 20, 2013 - P90X2 - Chest + Back + Balance
I was in a really bad frame of mind when I got home today, and the last thing I wanted to do was a tough 60 minute workout, especially one with pushups on med balls, and pullups. The redundant warmup, which I don't like, didn't help things. Once I got into the actual workout I felt a bit better, but not much. It's really hard to push yourself when you don't want to. My pullups were really poor. I had no strength and was barely getting my chin above the bar on most reps. The pushups weren't as bad, and I found myself equaling or bettering my numbers from the last time I did this workout over a year ago. I can't do towel puliups for some reason, and still wasn't able to do even one Impossible / Possible pushup, even though I fought like hell to get one in. This was just one of those days. Since I started the lifestyle of working out and eating better just over five years ago, I'm finding I have very few days like this, and that's a good thing. If that realization is all I got from today, then I'll take that as a positive, and be happy with that thought.
Time: 59 minutes; Calories Burned: 513; Avg Heart Rate: 115; Max Heart Rate: 152.
TUESDAY - MAY 21, 2013 - P90X2 - Plyocide
I was feeling a bit better today. I've never really had too many problems with this workout, so I wasn't dreading it. As I was doing it I realized why. During a lot of the routine I'm not doing a lot. There are a few balance exercises that were practically useless to me because on most days I have no balance, so I'm not getting the full value out of the reps. I also had to rest a bit during the One-Legged Slalom move because I was so tired from the previous exercise, the Frog Burpees. Then you get into those crazy stretches at the end, which I just don't seem to "get" (I've said that before). However, when all was said and done, I did work up a good sweat and kept up with most of the other moves, so I'm feeling good about that.
Time: 55 minutes; Calories Burned: 499; Avg Heart Rate: 117; Max Heart Rate: 151.
WEDNESDAY - MAY 22, 2013 - P90X2 - X2 Shoulders and Arms
Not much to say. This isn't really the toughest routine in the program, but it's still effective. The heaviest weight I used today was 25 lbs, and that's because when you're lifting you're balancing on one leg and in general using less weight. I did the best I could with the balancing, and kept up with the rep counts they were doing on the video.
Time: 52 minutes; Calories Burned: 445; Avg Heart Rate: 115; Max Heart Rate: 153.
THURSDAY - MAY 23, 2013 - P90X2 - X2 Yoga
Not as humid today as it's been the rest of the week, so it was a bit easier to get motivated for the workout. I had a bit more energy too. The workout went well. It was more relaxing than usual. The eating's been bad this week, and I've been feeling it. First of all, it makes my body feel like crap, and secondly, it puts my mind in a bad place because I feel guilty about it. I don't get guilt trips if I eat poorly once in a while. It's when I'm eating bad just to eat bad that it bothers me, and that's been happening all week.
Time: 67 minutes; Calories burned: 370; Avg Heart Rate: 96; Max Heart Rate: 127.
FRIDAY - MAY 24, 2013 - P90X2 - Base and Back
I recently saw an interview with Tony who said Base and Back was probably the toughest P90X/P90X2 workout for him. I have the One on One version of this routine, where he is testing it out for the P90X2 series. In that video he is gasping for air, taking tons of breaks, and basically says it's the hardest workout he's done in years. I've never had a problem getting through it, but at the very end of the main exercise portion I always think I'm more exhausted than any other workout. I think finishing with the Jack In the Box Knee Tucks has something to do with that. In general, I kept up with the plyo moves, but I was weak once again on the pullups. The strength just isn't there if I'm not doing them several times a week. I think that's one reason this isn't as tough for me as it should be. I'm not wearing myself out on the pullups like Tony is. I used to stop on the pullups once I came down and my feet hit the floor. Lately, I've been trying to get back up and get a few more reps in, but I find I can't do more than one at a time after I get back up. We all have our weaknesses we need to work on, and pullups are mine.
Time: 55 minutes; Calories Burned: 452; Avg Heart Rate: 112; Max Heart Rate: 208.
SATURDAY - MAY 25, 2013 - P90X2 - Recovery and Mobility
Very relaxing. Perfect for a Saturday.
Time: 57 minutes; Calories Burned: 161; Avg Heart Rate: 80; Max Heart Rate: 102.
SUNDAY - MAY 26, 2013 - P90X2 - X2 Ab Ripper and Weigh-In
X2 Ab Ripper
I like X2 Ab Ripper. It's roughly the same length as P90X Ab Ripper, but it seems to just fly by. I can feel the tightness in my abs too.
Time: 16 minutes; Calories Burned: 89; Avg Heart Rate: 95; Max Heart Rate: 117.
Weigh In
Weight: 177.8; Body Fat: 22.8%
A gain of 2.2 lbs and .5% body fay. An ugly week. I ate bad and felt bad.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
Not a good week. Ate bad. Felt bad. The first half of the week I just didn't feel like working out. Maybe I'm finally learning I can't eat bad and still expect to feel good and get good results. I'm looking forward to a bounce-back week.
MONDAY - MAY 20, 2013 - P90X2 - Chest + Back + Balance

HYBRID - WEEK 5 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Week of 5/13/2013
My entire Hybrid schedule is on my April 6, 2013 entry.
MONDAY - MAY 13, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - 30-15 Upper Body Massacre
I guess this is the start of my next five years of workouts. Coincidentally, this is similar to the first workout I did five years ago, P90X Chest and Back, except this one is all pushups and pullups. The first and only time I did this One on One was two months ago. At that time I chose to do 20 pushups and 5 pullups on each set. Today my goal numbers were 22 pushups and 7 pullups. I succeeded. There were a few times I put my knees on the floor for a second or so on the pushups (during Diamonds and also Standard to Chaturanga). I also came off the pullup bar a few times for small breaks. Overall, however, I was pleased. I was getting ahead of Tony a bit on the sets and did finish about 6 or 7 minutes before he did, but that just gave me more time for the cool down. I hadn't done concentrated pushups and pullups in almost a month so I was surprised I had the strength, but for the most part it was there. Total pushups: 264. Total pullups: 90. Both highs for me during one workout.
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 539; Avg Heart Rate: 118; Max Heart Rate: 154.
TUESDAY - MAY 14, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Cardio 5-6 Plus (Super Cardio)
I've done this workout many times before, and as I think I've said many times before, it's not my favorite, but it does get my heart rate up. No exception today.
Time: 46 minutes; Calories Burned: 417; Avg Heart Rate: 117; Max Heart Rate: 204.
WEDNESDAY - MAY 15, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Just Arms
I'm still getting used to this workout, not always knowing what weights to use on each exercise. I've been using 15's on most of the forearm exercises, but I might try 10's next time, just to see if I can get a bit more range of motion. On the last set of Crazy 8's I played it smart and only used 20's instead of the 25's I used in the earlier set. I think it was a good decision. Even Tony tried using 25's and dropped to 20's mid-set. All in all, this is a good workout. Good pace. I'm still extremely sore from Monday's 30-15 workout. My upper arms are burning, but I'm feeling it most in my core. I was even joking to one of my co-workers that I had to get "momentum" to roll over in bed last night.
Time: 46 minutes; Calories Burned: 370; Avg Heart Rate: 111; Max Heart Rate: 154.
THURSDAY - MAY 16, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Patience Hummingbird
36 minutes of yoga. Perfect workout for today. Very, very relaxing!!!
Time: 36 minutes; Calories Burned: 191; Avg Heart Rate: 94; Max Heart Rate: 125.
FRIDAY - MAY 17, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Plyo Legs
Tough workout, but it's paced well, and I actually enjoyed it. I matched Tony's reps for all but one or two of the exercises and my legs are shaking. I remember my legs and butt were real sore for a few days after I did this one for the first time a few months ago. We'll find out tomorrow and the next day.
Time: 63 minutes; Calories Burned: 558; Avg Heart Rate: 116; Max Heart Rate: 159.
SATURDAY - MAY 18, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Cardio Confusion: Mason's Choice
Absolutely my favorite workout. Tony and Mason are in such a good mood, you can't help but feel good while doing it. Yesterday I played golf, then did Plyo Legs. Today I spent almost two hours cutting the lawn. My legs are fried. My butt and inner things are killing me from yesterday's workout. So today's workout was a bit more difficult than usual. There were a couple moves (Loading Dock and Side Lunge Reaches) where my legs were really screamimg. I pushed through, did my best, and got it done.
Time: 44 minutes; Calories Burned: 370; Avg Heart Rate: 113; Max Heart Rate: 157.
SUNDAY - MAY 20, 2013 - TONY HORTON ONE ON ONE - Iso Abs and Weigh-In
ISO ABS
At 38 minutes, this is more than twice the time of most ab workouts I have, but it goes very quickly. I liked it a lot. I did all the reps. Had a problem getting up into Banana Boat a few times, but other than that, it went well. I can feel the tightness in my abs.
Time: 38 minutes; Calories Burned: 238; Avg Heart Rate: 100; Max Heart Rate: 121.
WEIGH-IN
Old Scale - Weight: 175.8; Body Fat: 22.3%. A drop of 2 lbs and .4% body fat.
New Scale - Weight: 188.4; Body Fat: 19.8%. A gain of .4 lbs and .1% body fat.
Something's not right. I ate pretty good this week, so I was shocked at the new scale results. I think I'm going to stop by my doctor's office and have them weigh me there. Then maybe I can determine which scale I should be using.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
I absolutely loved the workouts this week, maybe because most of them were relatively new to me. 30/15 and Plyo Legs had me sore for days, and Tony seems to be having such a good time in these videos, it makes it more fun. The good eating also put me in a good frame of mind. I'm going to miss the One on One's. If I get enough $$$, I might even consider buying all of them, and maybe doing a 90 day round of just the One on One's.

Today was supposed to be Sanity Check, but I lent the disc out to someone a few weeks ago, and they misplaced it. I did the Insanity Fit Test instead. It's comparable in toughness to Sanity Check. My numbers weren't as great as they were when I last did it in July 2012. However, it still tired me out a bit, and I worked up a good sweat. It's a good intro to a week of Insanity.
Time: 26 minutes; Calories Burned: 219; Avg Heart Rate: 113; Max Heart Rate: 148.
TUESDAY - MAY 7, 2013 - INSANITY - Plyometric Cardio Circuit
My first real Insanity workout in over 10 months. Except for the Level 1 Drills, I pretty much kept up. I was drenched in sweat when I was done, but I felt good. And my friend found my Sanity Check disc. A day late, but that's OK. I'll let her borrow it a while longer.
Time: 41 minutes; Calories Burned: 447; Avg Heart Rate: 128; Max Heart Rate: 156.
WEDNESDAY - MAY 8, 2013 - INSANITY - Cardio Power and Resistance
Another pretty good effort. There were a few times I had to stop for a few seconds to catch my breath, and others where I was moving a bit slower than some on the video, but for the most part, I kept up, and kept moving. Again, I feel good about it. The pushups at the end were killers.
Time: 39 minutes; Calories Burned: 401; Avg Heart Rate: 124; Max Heart Rate: 161.
THURSDAY - MAY 9, 2013 - INSANITY - Cardio Recovery
I hadn't done this workout almost a year and didn't remember too much about it. I was looking forward to a "recovery" day. Instead I felt like I was holding a squat for 33 minutes. Too much of that. I had to come out of several of the moves because my quads were burning. It wasn't a lot of jumping up and down, but it was far from relaxing.
Time: 33 minutes; Calories Burned: 183; Avg Heart Rate: 96; Max Heart Rate: 118.
FRIDAY - MAY 10, 2013 - INSANITY - Pure Cardio
I thought I remembered liking this workout from last year's Insanity round. I've been eating much better the last few days and feeling much better, so I was actually looking forward to the workout today. It went great. There were a few times I had to stop to catch my breath, but for the most part I was OK. I think this is definitely my favorite workout in the Insanity program. It's only 38 minutes long. The standard 10 minute cardio warm-up, 5 minute stretch, and then 15 minutes of non-stop cardio (15 moves at 1 minute each) followed by a cool down. I felt great afterwards.
Time: 38 minutes; Calories Burned: 389; Avg Heart Rate: 124; Max Heart Rate: 159.
SATURDAY, MAY 11, 2013 - INSANITY - Core Cardio and Balance
This workout is scheduled as the "Recovery Week" of the Insanity schedule, so I knew it was a bit less intense than most of the Insanity workouts. Once again, I was looking forward to doing it. It had a few tough moments, but overall it was relaxing. I liked it. A great Saturday workout for when your body is feeling a bit beat up from the rest of the week.
Time: 37 minutes; Calories Burned: 300; Avg Heart: 111; Max Heart Rate: 141.
SUNDAY - MAY 12, 2013 - INSANITY - Cardio Abs and Weigh-In
Today is a special day for me. It's my Fifth Anniversary of doing my 1st P90X workout. May, 12th, 2008. I've come a long way and I'm proud of what I've accomplished.
CARDIO ABS
This is a 16 minute ab workout. I tried concentrating on all the moves to make things more efficient. I'm not real sore, but I can feel a bit of tightness in my abs a few hours after the workout, so I'm thinking it worked. I liked it.
Time: 16 minutes; Calories Burned: 114; Avg Heart Rate: 103; Max Heart Rate: 131.
WEIGH-IN
Weight: 177.6; Body Fat: 22.7%
A drop of 1.6 lbs and .3% body fat. I ate really good the last half of the week. I feel better, and am encouraged by the results. On the new scale, 1 dropped 1 lb and had no change in body fat.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
As I mentioned at the end of last week in looking ahead to this week, Insanity was never my favorite workout program. However, I really enjoyed myself this week. One reason is that the workouts were a lot shorter than usual. The other is that I got through everything with very little problems. I was able to keep up with the videos and I felt great after each workout. I'm not sure I'm ready to do another 60 days of it, but in a small dose it was great.
Next week is Tony Horton's One on One series. I've set it up so the workouts will be similar to a P90X week.
