MONDAY - JUNE 30, 2014 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
Back at it, but I'm not sure it was a good idea. I'm still recovering from my cold. The weather has been very hot and humid. I'm constantly switching from the hot environment to an air-conditioned environment and it's not allowing me to recover quickly. I actually thought about taking another week off, but didn't want to go two weeks without working out. I thought I'd be OK today, but quickly found myself laboring and tiring quickly during the first few moves. About a third of the way in I decided to lighten my weights a bit or do a few less reps than usual on some of the moves. I got through it, but that's about all I can say. I'll try and get through Plyo tomorrow and see how it goes.
Time: 55 minutes; Calories Burned: 559; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate:220.
TUESDAY - JULY 1, 2014 - Plyometrics
I didn't struggle as much as yesterday, and this turned out to be an average, sweaty Plyo workout. I got a relatively good night's sleep yesterday for the first time in weeks. I think the workout might have had something to do with it.
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 664; Avg Heart Rate: 129; Max Heart Rate: 159.
WEDNESDAY - JULY 2, 2014 - Back and Biceps
A bit of a strange mix today. On a few of the moves I upped my weight and on a few I dropped my weight. On the Standing Bicep Curls I tried 45s and got 6 reps in. On many of the mid range moves where I'd used 30s, I dropped to 25s, simply because I just bought a set of 25 lb dumbbells and didn't have to adjust my Powerblock weights. On the strip set I used 40s, 35s, 30s, 25s, and did 8 reps of each. Overall it went well, except for the pullups, where I was weak again. My heart rate monitor battery gave out midway, so the numbers below are an aducated guess.
Time: 51 minutes; Calories Burned: 520; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 156.
THURSDAY - JULY 3, 2014 - Yoga X
I was thinking of doing one of the shorter Yoga workouts I have, but I really like Yoga X, especially the second half (the first half can get a bit tedious at times). I wasn't under any time constraints, so I went for it. It went OK, but I really had problems with my balance during the Half Moons and the Balance Postures. Most days it's bad. Today it was almost non-existent. But I got through it, and the rest of the workout went well. I put a new battery in my heart rate monitor, and noticed I did get a very low calorie burn compared to what I normally get on Yoga X. I'm not sure why, but am not concerned about it. Just an observation. One other observation: Two or three years ago I could do the "reach under your leg and grab your wrist (or fingers) of the other arm behind your back" move. I can't even get close anymore. I was also able to usually get through the Warrior 3 / Half Moon sequences fairly consistently, but can't anymore. Again, I'm not sure why, but I'll keep trying. It's puzzling as to how I lost the ability to do those moves almost overnight.
Time: 92 minutes; Calories Burned: 565; Avg Heart Rate: 99; Max Heart Rate: 129.
FRIDAY - JULY4, 2014 - Legs and Back
It's a holiday, so I wanted to get this one in early so I could enjoy the rest of the day. However, I kept procrastinating and finally got it in around 4pm. It went well. My arms are still sore from Wednesday's Back and Biceps, so I was wondering how the pullups were going to go, but I got 62 in, which is my high for the round. Another low calorie burn. Maybe it's the monitor. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's because the weather's been cooler the last two days. Doesn't really matter.
Time: 59 minutes; Calories Burned: 504; Avg Heart Rate: 113; Max Heart Rate: 152.
SATURDAY - JULY 5, 2014 - Kenpo X
Still a bit sore, and felt sluggish most of the day. Cut the lawn for almost 2 hours to get the blood moving again, then waited about 3 hours before doing the workout. The workout went OK, better than I was expecting based on the way I was feeling going into it..
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 493; Avg Heart Rate: 112; Max Heart Rate: 136.
SUNDAY - JULY 6, 2014 - Ab Ripper X
Got it done. Didn't use the video. Took my time. No Heart Rate Monitor or timer.
SUNDAY WEIGH IN
Weight: 194.0 (+0.8 lbs)
Body Fat: 21.3% (+0.3%)
Didn't eat well this week. Could have been worse.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
The workouts went well. I'd say better than average from Wednesday on. However, I let the eating slide a bit. I think I was feeling a bit too good after last week's weight loss and got a bit cocky about it. I can't do that.

P90X - ROUND 10 - Week of 06/16/2014
WEEK OF 6/16/2014 - REST
I'm still under the weather with a cold. I went to work today (Monday) and left after 30 minutes. I'm simply exhausted, have no energy or appetite, and simply feel doing these workouts is going to set me back even further. I'm going to take the entire week off, relax, let my body get back to normal, and will get back at it (continuing where I left off) starting next Monday.
SUNDAY WEIGH IN
Weight: 193.2 (-2.0 lbs)
Body Fat: 21.0 (-0.6%)
I thought I'd actually put on some weight because of not working out, so I'm very surprised. I didn't have much of an appetite most of the week, so maybe that had something to do with it.

P90X - ROUND 10 - WEEK 9 - Week of 06/16/2014
MONDAY - JUNE 16, 2014 - Chest and Back
I've been dreading this one for days. I wanted to watch the US/Ghana World Cup game, so I started the workout not too long after I got home from work. I'd been using 40 or 45 lb weights on the weighted back exercises. Today, I didn't feel like killing myself, so I used 35s. Bad move. Too light, and I think I tweaked my back a bit by either doing them too fast, or not concentrating on my form. My pull-ups weren't great either. I only got 24 in total, which is pathetic, but I wasn't really concentrating on those. To me this workout is about pushups, and today I got in 288, which is my personal best for this workout. One other thing I did today was I was going quicker than they were on video, and not taking as many breaks as they were, I ended up finishing a full set (4 exercises) before they did. I pretty much watched them do the last set, then jumped in for the cool down. I wasn't sure how this would affect my heart rate numbers or calorie burn, but it turns out those numbers were almost identical to the last time I did the workout.
Time: 52 minutes; Calories Burned: 530; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 154.
TUESDAY - JUNE 17, 2014 - Plyometrics
I was actually looking forward to this one today, simply because it wasn't Chest and Back. I felt good going in and I wasn't really sluggish at any point, so it ended up being a pretty good workout, though uneventful. I'm still not eating as well as I was at the beginning of this round, and that's beginning to bother me. I just need to decide to commit.
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 642; Avg Heart Rate: 127; Max Heart Rate: 154.
WEDNESDAY - JUNE 18, 2014 - Shoulders and Arms
Had a bit of a fever going into the workout. I didn't feel like even doing it, but I don't miss workouts unless I'm drastically sick. There were some places where I lightened my weights a bit, or did a few less reps, but I got it done.
Time: 59 minutes; Calories Burned: 641; Avg Heart Rate: 126; Max Heart Rate: 153.
THURSDAY - JUNE 19, 2014 - Patience "Hummingbird" Yoga (Tony Horton One on One)
Still not feeling well. I decided to do this 36 minute Yoga workout instead of the 92 minute Yoga X. It's not real hard, but there are some poses that are tough to hold for as long as he holds them. According to my heart rate monitor, my heart rate hit 214 at one point. I'm not sure exactly when, but there is one point about a quarter way into the workout where your arms are tired and then he has you down in Chaturanga for about 30 seconds. Ouch! Overall, I'm glad I did this today. I feel I get more out of Yoga X, but there are days, like today, when I need something shorter.
Time: 36 minutes; Calories Burned: 221; Avg Heart Rate: 99; Max Heart Rate: 214.
FRIDAY - JUNE 20, 2014 - Legs and Back
I know when I've done a good workout and when I haven't. Today wasn't a good one. I'm still fighting off a bug. I was getting really winded in spots. My lunges weren't really deep and my balance was worse than usual. I thought I really did poorly on my pullups, doing 57, but when done, I realized than was only 3 less than 2 weeks ago. One other thing. I've been finding myself stressing about the weight gain I had last week, and it seems like everything I've eaten this week just sits in my stomach bulge. I'm wondering if that stress is compounding that "bug". Guess I need to overcome it and look at things differently.
Time: 59 minutes; Calories Burned: 548; Avg Heart Rate: 118; Max Heart Rate: 148.
SATURDAY - JUNE 21, 2014 - Kenpo X
Still a bit lethargic, but I got it done. I was hoping I could sweat out the "bug". We'll see. Not a great workout, but not bad for how I was feeling.
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 501; Avg Heart Rate: 113; Max Heart Rate:136.
SUNDAY - JUNE 22, 2014 - Ab Ripper X
I did this later in the day while watching the US/Portugal World Cup game. As usual, I didn't use the disc, but tonight I purposely mixed up the order of the moves and did it over about a half hour time period. It was a totally different experience with the different order. I didn't use my heart rate monitor.
SUNDAY WEIGH IN
Weight: 195.2 (-2.2 lbs)
Body Fat: 21.6% (no change)
A step in the right direction, but I think a lot of last week's gain was a temporary aberration that I thought was be reflected in this week's result.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
I haven't been feeling well most of the week (still am not), so I found myself not going full out on many of the exercises. Also, I'm finding myself more sore this week than I have lately. I'm happy with the weight drop, but am nowhere close to where I wanted to be at this point in the round. All I can do is move forward.

P90X - ROUND 10 - WEEK 8 - Week of 06/09/2014
MONDAY - JUNE 9, 2014 - Yoga X
The first half was a sweat fest. I'm still struggling with the Warrior 3's and the Half Moon on my right leg. Everything else was OK. My Balance Poses were better, especially on my left leg.
Time: 92 minutes; Calories Burned: 706; Avg Heart Rate: 108; Max Heart Rate: 139.
TUESDAY - JUNE 10, 2014 - Core Synergistics
One thing I realized as I was getting myself geared up to do this workout today: This workout has many of the toughest moves for me in all of P90X. It's not so much that the individual moves are tough, but a lot of it is the sequence they're in, and also the number of reps involved. The Leaning Crescent Lunges don't look hard, but you're doing 24 of them, and even 10 lb weights start to get heavy. Same thing with the Lunge, Kickback, Curl, Press move. 20 reps with 15 lbs when you're exhausted is tough. Doing 30 X-Presses is exhausting in the middle of a workout. There are a few other moves that are also beasts. Plank to Chaturanga runs done right after the 30 X-Presses is just brutal. This could just be me. Maybe nobody else feels the same way, I don't know, but that's how I feel.
Time: 57 minutes; Calories Burned: 556; Avg Heart Rate: 121; Max Heart Rate: 155.
WEDNESDAY - JUNE 11, 2014 - Cardio X
This isn't the most intense workout in P90X, but by the end I was sweating. I didn't need real intense today, so it worked out well.
Time: 43 minutes; Calories Burned: 324; Avg Heart Rate: 110; Max Heart Rate: 150.
THURSDAY - JUNE 12, 2014 - X Stretch
A good stretch. I didn't push myself too much, but I did feel a bit more flexible than usual.
Time: 57 minutes; Calories Burned: 239; Avg Heart Rate: 89; Max Heart Rate: 134.
FRIDAY - JUNE 13, 2014 - Core Synergistics
Golf today. Had a long ride home, relaxed a bit on the computer, then got right into the workout. I find if I don't take a nap when I get home, or lay around dreading doing the workout, things go much better, and today went well. I just felt fresher. I also burned more calories than usual today, but that may be because I ate a greasy cheeseburger at the golf course. First one of those I've had in a long time. Maybe over a year. It didn't even taste that great. As for the workout, I used 10 lb weights on the Leaning Crescent Lunges and the Squat Runs, and 15 lb weight on the Lunge and Reach, Squat X-Presses, and Lunge, Kickback, Curl, Press moves. I still have problems with the Chaturanga Runs, and I don't push myself to get up into the Bow move in Bow to Boat, mostly because I just don't like doing it, but other than those two things, I got through everything else with no problems.
Time: 57 minutes; Calories Burned: 617, Avg Heart Rate: 127; Max Heart Rate: 162.
SATURDAY - JUNE 14, 2014 - Yoga X
Felt sluggish all day. Couldn't get loose during the workout. My hamstrings were exceptionally tight. I can't seem to do the "wrap" move anymore, so I didn't even try it today. One of those days were it seemed like the vinyasas were never going to end, but I got through it. All this added up to a below average workout. Low calorie burn too.
Time: 92 minutes; Calories Burned: 605; Avg Heart Rate: 102; Max Heart Rate: 129.
SUNDAY - JUNE 15, 2014 - Rest
SUNDAY WEIGH IN
Weight: 197.4 (+3.8 lbs)
Body Fat: 21.6% (+0.4%)
I can't ever remember a weight increase like that. I made some poor eating choices this week, but wasn't expecting that.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
The huge weight gain is disconcerting, but I'm pretty sure it's a temporary thing. The workouts went OK. Maybe a bit below average for a few of them, but not too much. I guess I could get real depressed about the weight gain, but I'm not. It may be just a residual of what I ate yesterday.

P90X - ROUND 10 - WEEK 7 - Week of 06/02/2014
MONDAY - JUNE 2, 2014 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
I did a few more reps on some of the moves earlier on, but got tired near the end, most noticeably on the One Arm Balance Pushups. I normally do 16, but only got 13 in. However, I did get in 12 Airborne / Clap Pushups, where last week I only did 10. Overall, it was a good workout.
Time: 55 minutes; Calories Burned: 562; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 212.
TUESDAY - JUNE 3, 2014 - Plyometrics
I didn't eat well today. I had a Whopper Value meal for lunch today along with a piece of their Chocolate Cream pie. It's probably the worst I've eaten this round, and it's not something I do a lot, but I'll admit, it tasted good. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home to get some things and picked up some multigrain chips, and had some of those before the workout. The good thing is, I'm at the point where I know I won't be craving that stuff tomorrow and turn it into a bad snowball effect. As for the workout itself, my stomach was a little queasy going in, but I got through everything OK. I didn't get the calorie burn I usually get, but I was tired and sweating like crazy.
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 623; Avg Heart Rate: 126; Max Heart Rate: 152.
WEDNESDAY - JUNE 4, 2014 - Back and Biceps
I haven't got much sleep the last two nights and today was extremely busy at work, so I was totally exhausted when I got home. I took a short nap, then got into the workout. This round I've been concentrating on upping the weights to the "8 to 12" rep area. Today the plan was to cut back a bit because I was so exhausted. On the first weighted back move I used 40 lb weights (I used 45s last week), but after that the plan went out the window. I actually increased my weights by 5 lbs on many of the bicep moves. I used 40s on the Standing Bicep Curls (8 reps). I then thought I'd try starting with 40s on the Strip Set, which I did, but only got 4 reps in on the first set. I then finished all 8 reps with the 35s, 30s and 25s. In the end, Pullups sucked as usual. I wasn't thrilled with the workout, but I actually did OK.
Time: 51 minutes; Calories Burned: 510; Avg Heart Rate: 122; Max Heart Rate: 158.
THURSDAY - JUNE 5, 2014 - Fountain of Youth Yoga (Tony Horton One on One)
I pretty much decided last night that I would do this workout instead of Yoga X, and I didn't change my mind during the day. I've really been working out hard lately, and just needed a shorter workout. The workout went OK, but there was something I noticed when doing it. I really like Yoga X better. It's more thorough and I work up a better sweat. But once in a while the time factor comes into the equation, and today was one of those days.
Time: 47 minutes; Calories Burned: 257; Avg Heart Rate: 96; Max Heart Rate: 123.
FRIDAY - JUNE 6, 2014 - Legs and Back
Felt good going into the workout and maintained that feeling throughout. I did 60 pullups and felt strong doing those. Eating is starting to slip a bit. Really need to nip that in the bud.
Time: 59 minutes; Calories Burned: 530; Avg Heart Rate: 115; Max Heart Rate: 154.
SATURDAY - JUNE 7, 2014 - Kenpo X
Good workout, but just as with last week, my heart rate wasn't getting up. Hence, a low calorie burn.
Time: 58 minutes; Calories Burned: 423; Avg Heart Rate: 105; Max Heart Rate: 129.
SUNDAY - JUNE 8, 2014 - Ab Ripper X
Went OK. Nothing exceptional to speak of. Took a little longer than last week.
Time: 18 minutes; Calories Burned: 125; Avg Heart Rate: 101; Max Heart Rate: 141.
SUNDAY WEIGH IN
Weight: 193.6 (-1.2 lbs)
Body Fat: 21.2% (-0.2%)
I'm a bit surprised. I was expecting a bit of a gain, but I'll take it, and will continue to move forward.
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
Low calorie burn on most of the workouts, but I'm happy with the weight loss. Eating was slipping a bit, but I'm aware of it.
