This is a Plus Week
MONDAY - December 27, 2010 - Upper Plus
=================================
Time: 52:47
Calories Burned: 554
Avg Heart Rate: 126
Max Heart Rate: 159
I look forward to the P90X Plus workouts as they're a good change of pace, and I'm especially liking Upper Plus. Today was a good workout. I took a lot of breaks in the second half, but I did increase my weight on a few of the exercises, going from 15lbs to 20lbs on the tricep moves with absolutely no problems, and also bumping the weight up on the Pumper Curls from 25lbs to 30lbs. I felt stronger on the pullups too. As usual, by the end of this workout my arms were spent, and I could barely feel them in the cooldown.
TUESDAY - December 28, 2010 - Interval X Plus
====================================
Time: 44:18
Calories Burned: 486
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 158
Overall, a good workout. I can't say it was my best Interval X workout, but it got me real tired and I got a good calorie burn. Can't ask for much more than that.
WEDNESDAY - December 29, 2010 - Total Body Plus
=======================================
Time: 55:57
Calories Burned: 601
Avg Heart Rate: 128
Max Heart Rate: 156
I wasn't feeling too well going in as I think I ate a bad chicken taco for lunch. I took a lot of breaks (about 10 minutes total) to catch my breath, but I maxed out each exercise the best I could, even doing a few more moves than usual on some of them. Once again, I felt a small bit stronger on some of the pullup moves. I get another chance at this routine on Friday.
THURSDAY - December 30, 2010 - Yoga X
================================
Time: 1:34:08
Calories Burned: 671
Avg Heart Rate: 105
Max Heart Rate: 131
An average Yoga X workout. I was horrible on my balancing, but pretty good on my stretching. My mind was wandering a bit, but not too much.
FRIDAY - December 31, 2010 - Total Body Plus
===================================
Time: 57:02
Calories Burned: 614
Avg Heart Rate: 127
Max Heart Rate: 157
Last workout of the year. When I set up the rotation for the Plus Weeks for this round I was wondering if doing this routine two times in three days would be a problem. It wasn't. Historically, I've been taking a lot of pause time with this workout, and I was trying to cut down on it today, but it still was over ten minutes. A lot of that is for writing things down, but a lot is also to catch my breath. I guess it is what it is, but it's something I can try and improve on in the future. With that said, it's still a good workout, and I always have that good tired when I'm done.
SATURDAY - January 1, 2011 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
=====================================
Time: 41:39
Calories Burned: 450
Avg Heart Rate: 128
Max Heart Rate: 152
What a geat way to start out the New Year, doing my favorite workout. I really enjoyed it, as usual.
SUNDAY - January 2, 2011 - Weigh-In and Abs/Core Plus
==========================================
WEIGH IN
Weight: 180.9
Body Fat: 23.4%
An increase of .8 pounds and .1% body fat. I'm still finishing up the Christmas Cookies. It's probably not the perfect thing to be doing, but I'm doing it anyways. Once they're gone, they're gone. I feel good, and not as bloated and heavy as in recent weeks.
ABS/CORE PLUS
Time: 27:59
Calories Burned: 254
Avg Heart Rate: 117
Max Heart Rate: 194
I took a lot of small breaks, mostly to write things down, but I was still winded throughout for some reason. I did max out the reps though, so that's good.

Monday, December 20, 2010
ROUND 7 - WEEK 5
This is a Classic Phase 2 Week
MONDAY - December 20, 2010 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
==============================================
Time: 59:44
Calories Burned: 569
Avg Heart Rate: 120
Max Heart Rate: 160
One of my favorite workouts. There's still room for improvement. I should be using a bit heavier weights on the Tricep exercices. Also, I still can't trust myself to do Clap pushups from my feet. I always feel like I'm going to break my wrists. I'm sure there's a trick to it I'm not getting. I also need to try the One Armed Pushups from my feet. I'm still on my kness for those also. Other than that, a good effort.
TUESDAY - December 21, 2010 - Plyometrics
=================================
Time: 58:49
Calories Burned: 686
Avg Heart Rate: 133
Max Heart Rate: 159
I was laboring early on and felt like taking breaks a number of times, but I didn't. My heart rate was in the 140s by the second set, and consistently in the 150s after that. Based on that, I was expecting to see a calorie burn well over 700 calories, but 686 is still great. I can really feel the few pounds I've put on lately, and need to concentrate on my eating. I'm not eating bad, but not good either. I'm just not feeling like taking the time to make proper meals the way I should and I need to do that. It's important.
WEDNESDAY - December 22, 2010 - Back and Biceps
=======================================
Time: 1:05:43
Calories Burned: 661
Avg Heart Rate: 123
Max Heart Rate: 155
Some good and some bad in this workout. The good is that I lifted more weight on most of the moves. The bad is that I took about 14 minutes in pause time, most of it to let my arms recover. If I need to pause a bit to lift bigger weight, then that's what I have to do. Another bad is the pullups. I started strong with 6 Wide Fronts, which is good for me, but after that it went downhill fast. By the time I got to the end I had no strength left. The last set of pullups was a choice, and I chose to do semi-wide ones. I did one, and couldn't get back up again. I even came off the bar and tried again, but I was done.
THURSDAY - December 23, 2010 - Yoga X
================================
Time: 1:35:52
Calories Burned: 699
Avg Heart Rate: 106
Max Heart Rate: 137
A very good Yoga X workout. I was relaxed throughout and was able to concentrate on most of the vinyasa moves and poses. My Warrior 3/Half-Moons were very good and my Balance Postures were better than they've been in months. I even held Crane for 30-40 seconds. I was also a lot more flexible than I have been lately. I've been eating better and feeling a bit lighter the last few days, so maybe that had something to do with it.
FRIDAY - December 24, 2010 - Legs and Back
==================================
Time: 59:08
Calories Burned: 596
Avg Heart Rate: 123
Max Heart Rate: 157
Total Pullups: 61
I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping and stopped and grabbed a few Burger King cheeseburgers against my better judgement. I was feeling them the entire workout and really need to start listening to my inner voice with those things. I was sluggish in spots, but finished without any pauses. All the leg exercises went OK (except for the balancing). My arms were still very sore from Back and Biceps on Wednesday, but the pullups weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I felt I had more strength on them than I've had lately, but I only did one more than two weeks ago. However, I'm still encouraged.
SATURDAY - December 25, 2010 - Kenpo X
=================================
Time: 59:01
Calories Burned: 578
Avg Heart Rate:122
Max Heart Rate: 146
Christmas Day. I had a good portion of my sister's yummy lasagna and had to sample the cookies and candy a bit, but overall I think I did OK. When I got home, I slept a bit of it off, and did my workout between 6-7 pm. It went very well. I was feeling light and more energetic today because I've been trying to eat better, and got one of my best Kenpo X calorie burns. I'm very happy with the workout.
SUNDAY - December 26, 2010 - Weigh In and Ab Ripper X
===========================================
WEIGH IN:
Weight: 180.1 Body Fat: 23.3%
A loss of one pound and .3% body fat. I was hoping for a bit more, but I'm not totally disappointed or even too concerned about it. I looked at last year's weigh-ins and found there were increases around this time of year also. I just need to keep eating right and the results will come. I'm liking the Shakeology and think that will make a difference with consistent use. I just have to find a way to fit it into my budget.
AB RIPPER X:
Time: 19:00
Calories Burned: 136
Total Moves: 387
I took my time with the moves and took a few extra seconds break between each move. Did 72 Mason Twists. Otherwise, nothing extra special.
MONDAY - December 20, 2010 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps

ROUND 7 - Week 4
This is a Recovery Week
MONDAY - December 13, 2010 - Yoga X
==============================
Time: 1:36:45
Calories Burned: 693
Avg Heart Rate: 105
Max Heart Rate: 135
A good Yoga X workout. I was able to keep my concentration up for most of the moves and thought I held most of them OK. The exceptions were the Balance Postures, which were absolutely horrible. I was bouncing around on them so much it looked like a Plyo workout. Overall I was pleased, and I got another nice calorie burn.
I NEED TO EAT BETTER. NO MORE NIBBLING ON COOKIES AND CANDY AT WORK.
TUESDAY - December 14, 2010 - Core Synergistics
======================================
Time: 57:46
Calories Burned: 597
Avg Heart Rate: 125
Max Heart Rate: 157
This is probably my least favorite workout, and I found myself NOT "Bringing It" during the first third, as I just don't like a lot of the moves. It's tough for me to get excited about Bow to Boat or Low Lateral Skaters, so I just kind of went through the motions. However, I picked it up after that and improved my attitude. The calorie burn was OK, but not my best. I get another chance at it on Friday.
WEDNESDAY - December 15, 2010 - Cardio X (Modified)
==========================================
Modification: Skipped Yoga section. Did Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, then repeated them.
Time: 58:23
Calories Burned: 618
Avg Heart Rate: 126
Max Heart Rate: 157
During a Classic P90X Recovery Week, this would be a Kenpo X day, but I always wanted to get Cardio X into the program somehow. It always bugged me that in the Classic Program, Cardio X was left out. The times I used Cardio X in between official rounds, I noticed I really didn't get my heart rate up until the Core section, and then the workout ended. Keeping this in mind, I came up with the above modification a few months ago, and it worked wonders. My heart rate is usually up 15 beats per minute on the second go-around, and it therefore ends up being a very good workout with a good calorie burn. Today was no exception, and I'm very happy with it.
THURSDAY - December 16, 2010 - X Stretch
==================================
Time: 57:46
Calories Burned: 201
Avg Heart Rate: 85
Max Heart Rate: 107
I always love it when X Stretch rolls around. As Tony says "It's just what the doctor ordered". I was a bit disappointed I had to come out of Camel a bit early, and I couldn't get flat on my back in Hero Pose, but otherwise things went well.
FRIDAY - December 17, 2010 - Core Synergistics
====================================
Time: 57:40
Calories Burned: 580
Avg Heart Rate: 123
Max Heart Rate: 160
I came in with a much better attitude towards this workout than I had on Tuesday. I can't believe I only burned 580 calories.
I also had my first sale today as a Beachbody Coach. Kind of exciting.
SATURDAY - December 18, 2010 - Yoga X
================================
Time: 1:36:48
Calories Burned: 699
Avg Heart Rate: 106
Max Heart Rate: 136
Not my best Yoga X workout. I had a bit of an upset stomach going in, but I stuck with it, did my best, and finished it up. Again, a great calorie burn. Of the five Yoga X workouts this round, only one has been below 693 calories burned. 600 used to be the norm. My average heart rate has been around 106 for this round, where it used to be around 99. I'm not sure why the difference, or even if it's good or bad to have a higher heart rate during a routine that's supposed to be relaxing, but is strenuous at the same time.
SUNDAY - December 19, 2010 - Weigh In & Rest
====================================
Weight: 181.1 Body Fat: 23.6%
A gain of .9 lbs and .2% body fat. For some reason, I'm not sweating the results. I didn't eat perfect this week, but I'm conscious of it.
MONDAY - December 13, 2010 - Yoga X

ROUND 7 - Week 3
This is a CLASSIC PHASE 1 WEEK
MONDAY - December 6, 2010 - Chest and Back
===================================
Time: 56:14
Calories Burned: 589
Avg Heart Rate: 126
Max Heart Rate: 158
Total Pushups: 206
Total Pullups: 27
An increase of 14 pushups from two weeks ago, which I'm happy with, and an increase of 3 pullups from two weeks ago, which I'm not (still pathetic on the pullups). I was strong on the pushups in the early going, but leveled off later on. One thing that may have contributed to that leveling off is that I cut my "pause" time for the workout down from 10 minutes to only 4 minutes. Usually I'm taking all kinds of breaks with this workout, but I felt good today. As I've mentioned numerous times before, this workout is my nemises, but ironically I feel better after this workout than any other. Go figure.
TUESDAY - December 7, 2010 - Plyometrics
=================================
Time: 58:48
Calories Burned: 654
Avg Heart Rate: 130
Max Heart Rate: 157
A good workout. My heart rate was up early and in the 150's for most of the 5th set.
WEDNESDAY - December 8, 2010 - Shoulders and Arms
=========================================
Time: 1:06:12
Calories Burned: 642
Avg Heart Rate: 121
Max Heart Rate: 155
I took a few more pauses and made a few adjustments up and down on some weight, but otherwise it was pretty much a repeat of Shoulders and Arms from two weeks ago. I'm pleased overall, but may want to increase the weight in the future to keep growing. I'm just not sure where. I tweaked a muscle near my left shoulder blade, so maybe I shouldn't try to be a hero just yet.
I tried Shakeology (Chocolate) for the first time today. It was better than expected, and I'm going to give it a fair shot to see if it really makes a difference.
THURSDAY - December 9, 2010 - Yoga X
===============================
Time: 1:38:06
Calories Burned: 719
Avg Heart Rate: 106
Max Heart Rate: 138
I thought I did great on most of the moves, and I got a great calorie burn, but my mind was wandering throughout the whole workout. I'm not sure if that's success or not.
FRIDAY - December 10, 2010 - Legs and Back
==================================
Time: 59:13
Calories Burned: 560
Avg Heart Rate: 119
Max Heart Rate: 162
Pullups: 60
Not a great workout. My pullups were 8 more than last time, but they're still not there. On the first set of Reverse Grip Chinups I convinced myself I couldn't do them, and only did 8. I've done many more than that in the past. To my credit, I came back with 10 on the repeat. Still not good, but at least it's a positive. The leg exercises were OK, but my balance was really bad on some of them, such as the Super Skaters and Deadlift Squats.
SATURDAY - December 11, 2010 - Kenpo X
=================================
Time: 59:14
Calories Burned: 521
Avg Heart Rate: 116
Max Heart Rate: 142
My mind was wandering through the warmup, but once I started going, I thought it went well.
SUNDAY - December 12, 2010 - Weigh In and Ab Ripper X
===========================================
Weight: 180.2 lbs Body Fat: 23.4%
A drop of 1.6 lbs and .5% body fat. A small step in the right direction. I'm going to be using the Shakeology this week, and hope I'll see a difference.
Ab Ripper X
Time: 19:06
Calories Burned: 142
Avg Heart Rate: 107
Max Heart Rate: 144
Total Moves: 383
For some reason my legs were burning more than usual on the first four moves, but everything else went OK. 68 Mason Twists.
MONDAY - December 6, 2010 - Chest and Back

The leg exercises were OK, but my balance was really bad on some of them, such as the Super Skaters and Deadlift Squats.

SUNDAY - December 12, 2010 - Weigh In and Ab Ripper X
===========================================
Weight: 180.2 lbs Body Fat: 23.4%
A drop of 1.6 lbs and .5% body fat. A small step in the right direction. I'm going to be using the Shakeology this week, and hope I'll see a difference.

ROUND 7 - Week 2
This is a P90X PLUS Week
MONDAY - November 29, 2010 - Upper Plus
=================================
Time: 52:47
Calories Burned: 547
I did this workout a few weeks ago after doing almost no strength training for 2+ months, and it absolutely killed me. After one week of strength training, I did a LOT better. My pushups and pullups were almost double what they were a few weeks ago. I only took a small 10 second break in the first half and was thinking it wasn't so bad. However, the second half was a different story. I was totally gassed and taking small breaks after almost every exercise. As I think I mentioned before, this routine sneaks up on you. It doesn't look that hard, but it is. Overall, I was very happy with the way it went.
TUESDAY - November 30, 2010 - Interval X Plus
====================================
Time: 44:22
Calories Burned: 475
I wanted to follow up yesterday's good effort with another, and I think I did so. I felt pretty good through the entire workout, and had one of my highest calories burns on this routine.
WEDNESDAY - December 1, 2010 - Total Body Plus
======================================
Time: 57:40
Calories Burned: 646
I took about 13 minutes in break time, but I also maxed out my reps on each move. Pullups are still not there, but they are getting better. A good calorie burn.
THURSDAY - December 2, 2010 - Yoga X
===============================
Time: 1:35:56
Calories Burned: 626
During the first half of the workout I tried working on my balance by concentrating on my foot placement. Because of my bad ankles and knees it isn't a simple thing for me. It worked to a point, but I still lost my balance a few times during the Half-Moons, and a lot during the Balance Poses. I'll keep working on it. Crane went a lot better than it has the last few times. All in all, a better than average workout.
Also, today, I became a Beachbody Coach. I've been thinking about it lately. I'm not sure where I'm going with it, but I do know I believe in the products, and that's a must.
FRIDAY - December 3, 2010 - Upper Plus
===============================
Time: 48:25
Calories Burned: 500
A repeat of Monday's workout. As I mentioned then, I was exhausted by the second half on Monday. Today I tried using 25 lbs instead of 30 lbs on two of the biceps moves, and I increased my reps significantly on both (Lean Back Curls from 15 to 24 reps, and Pumper Curls from 20 to 30 reps). I'm not sure if that was the sole reason, but I cut my pause time by 4 minutes. That's significant. I'm really beginning to like this workout.
SATURDAY - December 4, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
======================================
Time: 41:41
Calories Burned: 444
Started out a bit sluggish, but picked it up, and it turned into a good workout.
SUNDAY - December 5, 2010 - Weigh In and Abs/Core Plus
============================================
Weight: 181.8 Body Fat: 23.9%
An increase of 2.6 lbs and .2% body fat percentage. This is going the wrong way in a hurry. I need to really concentrate on what I'm eating.
Abs/Core Plus:
Time: 26:28
Calories Burned: 263
This workout can tire you out, but I still don't think I'm getting the same results I'm getting with Ab Ripper X.

ROUND 7 - Week 1
MONDAY - November 22, 2010 - Chest and Back
====================================
Time: 1:02:06
Calories Burned: 621
Avg Heart Rate: 123
Max Heart Rate: 156
Total Pushups: 192
Total Pullups: 24
Except for some minor things here and there, I haven't done any strength training since I ended my last round in late August. It showed. Pushups and Pullups have never been my strength, and this routine wears me out like no other because of that. It's the only workout I actually dread doing. The pushup number is low compared to where I finished last round, but it's liveable considering the layoff. I was hoping to get 200 in, so it was close. However, the pullup number is downright embarrassing. I just had no strength to do them, but I'm confident they'll get better with time.
TUESDAY - November 23, 2010 - Plyometrics
==================================
Time: 58:45
Calories Burned: 622
Avg Heart Rate: 126
Max Heart Rate: 156
A low calorie burn for a Plyo workout for me. I'm extremely sore from yesterday's Chest and Back, so maybe I was holding back a bit because of that, but whatever the reason, I was missing a bit of energy. Not a lot, but a noticeable bit. I felt real good a few hours after yesterday's first strength workout in months, but the soreness is starting to creep in as the hours go by. I think I'm really going to feel it tomorrow, as experience shows there is usually a two day drag on the real soreness.
WEDNESDAY - November 24, 2010 - Shoulders and Arms
==========================================
Time: 1:01:35
Calories Burned: 612
Avg Heart Rate: 123
Max Heart Rate: 153
I thought this was a good workout. I only took two very short breaks. One to adjust my weights in the fourth set, and one in the last set to catch my breath for a few seconds. I decided this round I was going to try to be an "8 to 10" guy, so I was trying heavier weights in places. In most cases things were OK, and in fact I may even try to go heavier next time on some of the exercises. There were a few times I noticed I was lifting more than Tony or Joe Bovino. In other instances going heavier was a mistake, such as trying 30's in the Lying Down Tricep extensions, but at least I've got something to reference for next time.
THURSDAY - November 25, 2010 - Yoga X
================================
Time: 1:37:11
Calories Burned: 735
Avg Heart Rate: 107
Max Heart Rate: 138
Thanksgiving Day. I had a pretty good meal at my parents, including some pumpkin pie and choolate pie, but didn't really overeat. I would have rather watched some football, but I don't skip workouts, so I Yoga X between 6:00 and 7:30. I was still feeling the effects of dinner. I also was still very sore from Monday's pushups and was a bit apprehensive about how the pushups were going to feel during the vinyasas section. They were tough at first, but eventually I loosened up and some of the soreness went away. My balances were horrible. I'm still convincing myself I can't balance, so I don't. I need to get my mind wrapped around the fact that they're possible. During the second half of the workout, I found myself going through the motions a lot. However, when I was done, and checked my calorie burn, I was shocked. 735 is by far the most I've ever burned on Yoga X, and one of my highest burns on any P90X routine. I had noticed a few times during the workout that my heart rate was higher than usual. Maybe it was because of the big dinner, and my body had to work harder. Whatever the reason, I'm happy with the result.
FRIDAY - November 26, 2010 - Legs and Back
==================================
Time: 59:45
Calories Burned: 616
Avg Heart Rate: 125
Max Heart Rate: 158
Total Pullups: 52
No problem with any of the leg exercises. I used 20lb weights on all the weight moves except for the calf raises, where I used 30lbs. I knew going in that the pullups were going to be a problem. I only did 52, where I was doing around 78 at the end of last round. However, I felt stronger with them than I did on Monday's Chest and Back workout, so they'll come around. I wasn't feeling real good before and during the workout, and took a very small break after the first move in the second half, but then finished it out with no more breaks.
SATURDAY - November 26, 2010 - Kenpo X
=================================
Time: 59:04
Calories Burned: 550
Avg Heart Rate: 119
Max Heart Rate: 149
Nothing special about today's workout. On all my workouts this week, I've burned over 600 calories, and I was hoping for the same today, but on looking back I don't think I've ever been over 600 on Kenpo X. I did burn 550 however, which is way above average for this routine, so I'm happy.
SUNDAY - November 27, 2010 - Weigh In and Ab Ripper X
===========================================
Weight: 179.2 Body Fat: 23.7%
An increase of 2.3 lbs and 1% body fat. Where did that come from? I wasn't expecting this. I'm back to the resistance training and less cardio, but my calorie burns were up there. I had a few pieces of candy at work on Tuesday and a few pieces of pie on Thanksgiving, but otherwise I ate pretty good. Something has to be causing this. Oatmeal? Protein Bars? I still feel good though. All I can do is my best.
AB RIPPER X:
Time: 17:56
Calories Burned: 139
Avg Heart Rate: 109
Max Heart Rate: 143
I hadn't done any direct ab routines since August, but I did OK on this one. I did at least 25 reps of each move, some I did 28, and I did 60 Mason Twists. I really felt my abs burning on the Pulse Ups and the Oblique V-Ups. I'll be sore tomorrow.

Monday - November 15, 2010 - Plyometrics
================================
Time: 58:41
Calories Burned: 650
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 160
Back to Plyo after not doing it last week. I used to dread doing this workout, but now I like it. My knees were really sore for some reason before I began. The only thing I can think of doing out of the ordinary lately is raking the leaves, so maybe that was it. The workout went OK, except my right shin started hurting a bit during the hot foot exercise. I hope I didn't do some damage to it. Otherwise, nothing exceptional.
Tuesday - November 16, 2010 - Interval X Plus
===================================
Time: 44:23
Calories Burned: 490
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 156
Almost 500 calories burned in a 44 minute workout. Not bad. Knees still hurting a bit. Something to keep tabs on. Kenpo Cardio Plus tomorrow, then Yoga X on Thursday. We'll see how they feel after that.
Wednesday - November 17, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
=======================================
Time: 41:45
Calories Burned: 417
Avg Heart Rate: 123
Max Heart Rate: 150
Not much to say. An average workout with an average calorie burn. Some days it's clicking, some days it not, and some days are in between, like today. My knees felt a bit better, however, which is a good sign.
Thursday - November 18, 2010 - Yoga X
==============================
Time: 1:35:27
Calories Burned: 579
Avg Heart Rate: 99
Max Heart Rate: 128
Not a bad workout, just not a great one. My mind was relatively clear, but it was wandering at times, especially during the first half when I was counting down how many vinyasa moves I had left to do. My balance was OK in the Warrior 3 / Half Moons. Not perfect, but better than it has been lately. My balance postures were poor, but again, better than they've been lately. I know one thing. My body still feels beat up. I'm at the point where I feel I should be considering starting a new round, but I just can't see myself doing the strength exercises week after week. Maybe I'd feel differently once I started doing them.
Friday - November 19, 2010 - Cardio X (Modified)
=====================================
Modification: Skipped Yoga section. Did Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, then repeated them.
Time: 58:41
Calories Burned: 578
Avg Heart Rate: 121
Max Heart Rate: 157
An average workout with nothing special to report. Seems to be a pattern for this week.
Saturday - November 20, 2010 - Kenpo X

Max Heart Rate: 151
I've been putting on weight the last few weeks and feel like tomorrow's weigh-in isn't going to be good. I've not been above 180 lbs in a long, long time, and I'm afraid tomorrow that may happen. Today we celebrated my parent's Anniversary with some cake and ice cream. To make things worse, I had a helping and a half, and I went into today's workout a bit on the depressed side. I started out just going through the motions feeling "what's the point". However, somewhere around the side-kicks things started to kick into gear, and I started feeling less sorry for myself, and I finished strong. Other than that, I didn't feel like this was an exceptional Kenpo workout, but I did end up burning almost 600 calories, which may be a high for me on Kenpo X. I'll take this momentum going forward.
Sunday - November 21, 2010 - Weigh In
==============================
Weight: 176.9 Body Fat: 22.7%
A drop of 2.2 lbs and .4% body fat from last week. A big surprise, but I'll take it.
I decided last night that ROUND 7 starts tomorrow. I think I really need to get back into the strength training.

Friday - November 19, 2010 - Cardio X (Modified)
=====================================

Sunday - November 21, 2010 - Weigh In
==============================
Weight: 176.9 Body Fat: 22.7%
A drop of 2.2 lbs and .4% body fat from last week. A big surprise, but I'll take it.
I decided last night that ROUND 7 starts tomorrow. I think I really need to get back into the strength training.

Monday - November 8, 2010 - Upper Plus
===============================
Time: 53:30
Calories Burned: 575
Avg Heart Rate: 127
Max Heart Rate: 158
I'm not ready to start another official round, but I wanted to get some strength exercises in because I haven't done them in a while, so I decided to do a P90X Plus week this week. I did the same thing a few weeks ago, but today I got a very rude awakening. I struggled with the pullups, felt nauseous a few times during the workout, and was taking breaks after almost every exercise in the second half of the workout. What an eye-opener. During the cooldown I could barely feel my arms in some of the stretches. After I was done I layed on the floor for about 45 minutes just to let my body recover.
Tuesday - November 9, 2010 - Interval X Plus
==================================
Time: 44:18
Calories Burned: 488
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 160
This was a really good workout. I wasn't feeling sluggish on any of the moves, and the calorie burn was one of my best on this routine.
Wednesday - November 10, 2010 - Total Body Plus
=====================================
Time: 55:59
Calories Burned: 601
Avg Heart Rate: 127
Max Heart Rate: 155
After Monday's wake up call with Upper Plus, I was a little bit curious as to how this one would go. I felt good going in but some of the early moves have a tendency to wear me down quickly. They don't look tough on paper, but they're tiring. I took a lot of small breaks to write down my rep counts and to change weights, but overall it went OK. It certainly wasn't as bad as Monday, even though I did burn more calories today than Monday. I'm still struggling with the pullups, but those will come in time once again.
Thursday - November 11, 2010 - X Stretch
================================
I probably should have done Yoga X, but I was really, really tired after work today, and decided to do X Stretch instead. My quads were really tight, so I didn't go all the way back on the Back Hero pose, but other than that all was OK. Though it may seem similar, it's still not the workout that Yoga X is.
Friday - November 12, 2010 - Cardio X (Modified)

Modification: Skipped Yoga section. Did Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, then repeated them.
Time: 58:21
Calories Burned: 565
Avg Heart Rate: 120
Max Heart Rate: 155
This was on the lower end as far as my calorie burns for this modified workout. Not surprising, as I felt my mind wandering a few times. I'm still sore from Monday / Wednesday, which is a good thing.
Saturday - November 13, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
======================================
Time: 41:43
Calories Burned: 459
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 155
I did a lot of yardwork today and for some reason started feeling a bit ill just before I started my workout. I took a small break just after the warmup to regroup, then went at it. I had a good time with it (as usual), got through it Ok, and ended up with one of my best calorie burns ever for Kenpo Cardio. Now I'm going to relax and watch some hockey.
Sunday - November 14, 2010 - Weigh In
=============================
Weight: 179.1 Body Fat: 23.1%
An increase of 2.1 lbs. I'm wondering where that came from? I was actually expecting a loss this week. I thought I ate fairly well, though not perfect. I got in some good workouts, and spent a few hours yesterday clearing leaves off my front yard. Looking back, I did have a few (2) Diet Pepsis, a lunchmeat sandwich at my parent's yesterday, finished off the halloween candy early in the week, did X Stretch instead of Yoga on Thursday, no Plyo this week. I did have two bowls of oatmeal yesterday with some peanut butter mixed in, and also had two Protein Bars. Maybe all that small stuff added up, but it shouldn't have made that much of a difference, as none of those things were totally out of the ordinary. It's disappointing and a bit concerning, but I'm not going to freak out about it. I usually bounce back.

I was briefly considering doing X Stretch instead, but once again, I'm glad I did Yoga X. I thought it was one of my better Yoga X workouts as far as calmess and patience go. However, the last few times I've done this workout, I'm convincing myself I can't do the balance postures, so I struggle with them. I've done them in the past with no problem, so I know they're possible. I need to get over that "I can't" minsdet.

There's many times I'm just going through the motions on this workout, but not today. I felt extremely good going into it and really pushed myself. The result was one of the best calorie burns I've had on this routine in a while. I could never figure out why I never get a great calorie burn here compared to the other P90X workouts, but I think I have to realize there's a 12 minute stretching warmup, a 4 minute cooldown, and a large chunk of the workout (blocks) where you're doing nothing but moving your arms. Take all that into consideration, and I guess 522 calories burned isn't all that bad.

I've been on again, off again with Yoga X during the between rounds maintenance, but I think it's necessary to not substitute for it each week. One thing P90X has done is that it's got me to pay more attention to my body, and how it reacts to things. About two hours before I did the workout, I ate a bowl of cereal with some 1% milk on it. I got tired, took about a 45 minute nap, and still felt very bloated and sluggish throughout the workout. Except for the Chocolate Milk I use for a recovery drink, I rarely drink milk. I'm going to watch how I feel after drinking or eating dairy. It may be negatively affecting me in a way I'd never thought about before.

Avg Heart Rate: 120 (estimated)
Max Heart Rate: 150 (estimated)
I could feel myself losing some muscle, so I decided to do a strength workout instead of just the cardio I've been doing the last 7 weeks. I took tons of breaks because my muscles were quivering after almost every exercise. I really noticed it in my pullups where there was a big dropoff from the last time I did the workout about 2 months ago. There was a slight decrease in the pushups and bicep moves, but not much. Regardless, I got through it, and am happy I did it.

Thursday - October 21, 2010 - X-Stretch

However, I ate a bunch of very delicious cookies at work, and decided to bump up Kenpo Cardio Plus from tomorrow to today to get in more calorie burn. I'll do the normal Kenpo X workout tomorrow instead of Kenpo Cardio Plus. A good decision on my part, as I thought I got a real good workout today. It was at the higher end of my calorie burn for this routine.

A gain of 2.5 lbs. This always seems to happen after I drop below 174. Maybe it's my body correcting itself. Maybe it's the cookies I ate. Maybe it's because I did two strength workouts this week instead of all cardio. Maybe it's because I did X-Stretch on Thurdsay instead of Yoga X, and the Yoga gods are mad at me. The point is, I feel good.

Post Round 6 Maintenance - Week 7
Monday - October 11, 2010 - Plyometrics
==============================
Time: 58:47
Calories Burned: 637
Avg Heart Rate: 128
Max Heart Rate: 158
This was one of my lowest calorie burns on Plyo. I noticed my heart rate wasn't up as high as usual, and I'm not sure I had the energy I usually do, but it was a good workout nonetheless.
Tuesday - October 12, 2010 - Interval X Plus
=================================
Time: 44:19
Calories Burned: 487
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 159
Just the opposite of yesterday's workout, as I noticed my heart rate was getting up there early. Therefore, a good calorie burn. The energy's still not there for some reason. I still need to get more sleep, and the eating is slipping a bit, but I'm working on it.
Wednesday - October 13, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
=====================================
Time: 41:41
Calories Burned: 412
Avg Heart Rate: 122
Max Heart Rate: 150
I'm still not sure why I don't get a better calorie burn on this workout, but it's consistently lower than a Plyo or Interval X workout, so I guess it is what is is. I think one of the reasons is you're not going floor to ceiling on any of the moves, as you'd do on some of the Plyo and Interval moves. I still love the workout, however, and I always work up a good sweat.
Thursday - October 14, 2010 - Yoga X
============================
Time: 1:34:49
Calories Burned: 555
Avg Heart Rate: 97
Max Heart Rate: 125
I hadn't done Yoga X in a few weeks, and was considering doing X Stretch again, but I had a rare Whopper Value Meal today and felt I needed the extra calorie burn. I also just saw an interview with Tony on a YouTube video where he re-emphasizes the value of Yoga X, so I did it. It's still tedious for me, especially in the first half, but one of the things he mentioned in the interview was that it helps with your patience, so I looked at it that way, and it helped a bit.
Friday - October 15, 2010 - Cardio X (Modified)
===================================
Modification: Skipped Yoga section. Did Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, then repeated them
Time: 58:33
Calories Birned: 604
Avg Heart Rate: 125
Max Heart Rate: 158
I was a bit worried about doing this workout today. I noticed yesterday during Yoga that my quad muscles and hamstrings were a bit tender. I don't know why they were tender, but I do know I couldn't hold the Half Boat poses because my quads were cramping up. That's the first time that's happened. Today I played golf in dreary, rainy, windy, cold weather, and by the time I got around to the workout, the Quads and Hammys were really tight. I started out a bit cautious, but got through the workout OK. I didn't pull anything, and got a nice calorie burn.
Saturday - October 16, 2010 - Kenpo X
=============================
Time: 59:21
Calories Burned: 487
Avg Heart Rate: 112
Max Heart Rate: 144
Pretty pathetic workout. No energy. Just going through the motions. Need to eat better.
Sunday - October 17, 2010 - Weigh In
============================
Weight: 173.3 Body Fat: 21.7%
A drop of almost three pounds, and .7 off the body fat %. I'm happy, because I was thinking there was going to be an increase in my weight. However, I'm not going to get overly excited here. I need to eat better. This week I didn't eat poorly (aside from the Whopper Value Meal), I just didn't eat enough. I had no energy on a lot of my workouts. There's days when I just don't feel like taking the time to prepare proper meals, and that has to change. I need to find some kind of alternative to chicken for my main source of protein, as I need some variety. Fish is OK, but good fish can get rather expensive. I'm eating protein bars, sometimes two in a day, but that's not enough, and I'm sure they're not giving me all the nutrients I need. This week I ate a LOT of almonds, as they were buy one, get one free at the store. Once again, they're OK, but that shouldn't be all I'm eating. This is all something I'm going to have to sit down and figure out. The P90X Nutrition Plan is a good place to start, but as I've said before, it makes me miserable, and I need to find a common ground that works for me. It can't be that hard. I already know the fundamentals. Also, as I've mentioned a few times, I do need to get more sleep. Seriously. It's something that's easy to overlook because we take it for granted, but as I'm writing this I'm realizing it's a main issue and may be the root cause of a lot of the above. I really need to do something about it, and really need to make it a priority. Immediately

Post Round 6 Maintenance - Week 6
Monday - October 4, 2010 - Plyometrics
==============================
Time: 58:46
Calories Burned: 709
Avg Heart Rate: 135
Max Heart Rate: 161
I'm still a bit tired from the lingering cold I've had, and was exhausted when I got home from work. I took a nap, woke up, and was looking for a reason not to do the workout, but of course there wasn't one, and I don't skip workouts. It turned out to be one of my highest calorie burns. Since I've been keeping track, I think there's only been three times I've been over 700 calories burned on any workout, and this was one of them. My heart rate was already in the 140's midway through the second set, and was almost always in the 150's from the third set on. I was tired, but feeling good.
Tuesday - October 5, 2010 - Interval X Plus
=================================
Time: 44:21
Calories Burned: 468
Avg Heart Rate: 126
Max Heart Rate: 157
Not my best Interval workout, but still got a good calorie burn. I started out a bit slow on the first few moves for some reason, but picked it up and finished strong.
Wednesday - October 6, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
=====================================
Time: 41:45
Calories Burned: 423
Avg Heart Rate: 124
Max Heart Rate: 149
A good, sweaty workout.
Thursday - October 7, 2010 - X Stretch
=============================
I did X Stretch instead of Yoga X, as I just felt like relaxing a bit, and didn't want to do 92 minutes. I hadn't done Yoga or X Stretch for a few weeks and felt really tight early on. I couldn't straighten my legs fully behind me when in Plough, so I thought I was really going to have a problem when I got to Camel and Back Hero. Surprisingly, I pulled both off with no problems, even laying flat on my back once again in the Back Hero pose. That's a good sign, when the flexibility can stay with you even when you're not feeling your best.

Modification: Skipped Yoga section. Did Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, then repeated them.

Drenched in sweat. I'm noticing my heart rate is 15-20 higher on the second time through, and it seems to peak during the Dreya Rolls, which is not a big surprise. It's also pretty high during the Wacky Jacks, which is a surprise.
Saturday - October 9, 2010 - Kenpo X
============================
Time:58:53
Calories Burned: 505
Avg Heart Rate: 114
Max Heart Rate: 143
A low calorie burn, which didn't surprise me because I was sluggish throughout the entire workout. I had very little energy, and as much as I tried to push myself, it just wasn't there. I seriously need to get more sleep. I think I only got 5 hours last night.
Sunday - October 10, 2010 - Weigh In
============================
Weight: 176.1 Body Fat: 22.4%
An increase of almost a pound. Who knows why? I ate pretty good this week. No binges. I did have a pretty good sized plate of spaghetti (whole wheat of course) early last evening, so I'm sure that had a bit to do with it. I realize this whole thing isn't about weight. It's about fitness, and how I feel, and how I look, and I'm very happy with those factors. However, weight is a measurable number, and I do pay attention to it. It's the one thing that prevents me from grabbing a ton of junk food during the week, so it's frustrating when I think I did well, and it goes up. I know I'm not the only one this happens to, so all I can do is control what I can.
Now I'm going to rant on the scale a bit. It's a Weight Watchers Digital Scale. I paid good money for it when I started this thing over two years ago. I got it because I wanted one that would show me my weight and my body fat %. All I want it to do is tell me how much I weigh. That's why I bought it. That's what it's for. How can I stand on the scale and have it tell me I weigh 174.0, step off the scale, step right back on it, and have it tell me I weigh 179.0? It tells you to step in the same place each time. Easier said than done, and damn near impossible to balance yourself on it in exactly the same place each time. Done ranting.

Post Round 6 Maintenance - Week 5
Monday - September 27, 2010 and Tuesday - September 28, 2010 - Rest
=====================================================
I was really bummed about my weigh in on Sunday, and was still feeling a bit weak from the cold I've been dealing with for the past few days, so I decided to take the week off. I haven't missed a day since I was sick last year, when I also took a week off. Last year I was REALLY sick and couldn't get through the workouts, so it was the smart thing to do, and I didn't really regret it. This time I wasn't as sick, but I think I was feeling a bit sorry for myself over the weigh in, and might have been using the illness as a bit of an excuse to take it easy. I also used it as an excuse to start eating like crap again.
Wednesday - September 29, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
========================================
Time: 41:44
Calories Burned: 470
Avg Heart Rate: 131
Max Heart Rate: 157
I was planning on taking the entire week off, but I found myself sitting around feeling sorry for myself and totally lost because I wasn't working out. I would watch others in the program on You Tube and felt I was no longer a part of it because I'd taken two days off. I was feeling a bit miserable. I remembered talking to a friend of mine a few weeks ago about P90X. He has it, but hasn't started it yet. I told him there were plenty of days when I don't feel like doing the workouts, but I do them anyways. Why? Because I feel if I don't do them, I'll probably regret it, but once I do the workout, I've never regretted it. This thinking inspired me to get off my butt and get it done. About 7pm I decided enough was enough and popped in the Kenpo Cardio Plus disc. It ended up being the best calorie burn I've ever had on this workout, and it felt good getting back into it.
Thursday - September 30, 2010 - Plyometrics
==================================
Time: 58:47
Calories Burned: 655
Avg Heart Rate: 130
Max Heart Rate: 160
I was feeling a little worse than yesterday, and was wondering if yesterday's workout had weakened me a bit, so I was actually considering sitting out another day. However, I decided I didn't want to start skipping workouts if I could physically do them. Normally, Thursdays are either Yoga X or X Stretch, but I decided I had enough rest on Monday and Tuedsay, so I pulled out my best calorie burner, and that is Plyometrics. Once again, it was a good workout. I was slightly weak, but got through it with no problems.
As the day was winding down, and I was getting ready for bed, I noticed how calm and happy I was, as opposed to earlier in the week, when I wasn't working out. I realized that working out, specifically with P90X, is a gift I've given myself over the past two and a half years. It's now part of who I am, and when it's not there I miss it. Those two days off really opened my eyes a bit. I'm a bit embarrased at the "feeling sorry for myself" routine I went through, but maybe that was something I needed to appreciate what I have here.

I didn't have a real good day at work today, so I found myself re-hashing that through most of the workout. However, I tried using the workout to push those things out of my mind, and instead concentrate on really "Bringing It". It worked most of the time. 677 calories burned is always good.

I felt a bit tired when I got home today, took a nap, and dragged myself to do the workout. However, that went well. I worked up a good sweat and burned a lot of calories. I'm starting to have some bad eating habits creep in. Nothing real bad, but something to keep an eye on and nip in the bud. I don't want to lose the momentum I've built up over the last few weeks.

This was a good Yoga X workout. I wasn't looking forward to the 90 minutes it would take, but I was relatively calm and focused throughout. My balances started out bad, but I regrouped and finished them well. The calorie burn wasn't bad either.

I've been sneaking in some junk food this week, more than usual. Birthday parties and chocolate cake (my weakness) at work are the main culprits, so I needed to "burn off some goo" today. This workout helped a bit.

I've been feeling a cold developing today, so I wanted to work extra hard to sweat it out of me. As I've been doing lately, I'm concentrating on turning into my punches and putting more into my kicks. Today, in between sets, I was getting higher on my X-jacks, bringing my knees up higher on my jogs, and getting up higher on the jump ropes. I still only burned 521 calories, but the effort was there. Since starting P90X two and a half years ago, I rarely get sick. In fact the only times I've missed workouts was last September when I caught a really bad cold and got so weak I forced myself to take a week off of the workouts to let me get my strength back. I'm hoping I can kick this. Tomorrow is a chill day. Watching some football and taking it easy. Hopefully that will help.

==============================
Weight: 175.7 Body Fat: 22.3%
I gained 3.9 lbs. I didn't eat THAT much chocolate cake, so I'm not sure of the reason, but it's disappointing to say the least. However, I move forward.

Wednesday - September 22, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
========================================
Time: 41:52
Calories Burned: 414

I tried maxing out the moves as best I could and got over 400 calories burned for the first time in a while. It's still my favorite workout.

Time: 1:35:46

This was a good Yoga X workout. I wasn't looking forward to the 90 minutes it would take, but I was relatively calm and focused throughout. My balances started out bad, but I regrouped and finished them well. The calorie burn wasn't bad either.
Friday - September 24, 2010 - Cardio X (Modified)

I've been sneaking in some junk food this week, more than usual. Birthday parties and chocolate cake (my weakness) at work are the main culprits, so I needed to "burn off some goo" today. This workout helped a bit.

Monday - September 13, 2010 - Plyometrics
================================
Time: 58:52
Calories Burned: 648
Avg Heart Rate: 129
Max Heart Rate: 157
Even though I didn't burn as many calories, I felt a LOT better today than I did doing Plyo last week. I wasn't laboring through any of the moves and never came close to hitting pause. 648 calories burned is still good for me on this workout.
Tuesday - September 14, 2010 - Interval X Plus
===================================
Time: 44:30
Calories Burned: 438
Avg Heart Rate: 122
Max Heart Rate: 153
A low calorie burn for this workout. The heart rate wasn't where is usually is, but I still worked up a pretty good sweat. I noticed I wasn't as tired as usual at the end, so maybe I need to concentrate on bringing it up a notch.
Wednesday - September 15, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
=======================================
Time: 41:51
Calories Burned: 364
Avg Heart Rate: 114
Max Heart Rate: 140
Not a good calorie burn at all. I noticed my heart rate was consistently under 120. I'm still not sure why I'm not burning more on this workout. Today, it was a bit cooler, and I had the fan on as usual, so I wasn't working up too much of a sweat. Maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe not.
Thursday - September 16, 2010 - X-Stretch
================================
I did X-Stretch today instead of Yoga X. It was a bit of a reward to myself for eating so well the last week or so, and also for working out so hard. I didn't feel I needed the extra calorie burn Yoga X would have given me, so I decided to just relax and stretch things out. It felt good.
Also, last week I started doing some strength work a few mornings a week. Nothing major, but something to keep the muscles in order a bit. I'm doing 8 semi-wide pull-ups, 8 bicep curls at 40 lbs, 30 pushups, and 8 shoulder presses at 35 lbs. It doesn't seems like a lot, but it is more pullups than I'd done., and the weights are also more than I'd done. I still get sore from just doing this 5 to 6 minutes two or three times a week.

I thought this was an average to above average workout. I was feeling a bit weak at the start (not enough to eat?), and felt a bit weak a few times during the workout, but finished it OK. I noticed my heart rate was in the 130s a lot, which is good.

I thought this was one of my best Kenpo X workouts. I tried to really concentrate of turning into the punches. The long warmup brings the average down, but my heart rate was in the 120's a lot, and I did see it in the 140's during some of the kicks.

==============================
Weight = 171.8; Body Fat = 21.4%
I lost 2.3 lbs from last week, and 4.9 in the last two weeks. This is a major breakthrough for me. I wanted to lose 40 lbs from where I started, which was 214 lbs in May 2008. In all that time, I've only dropped below 174 once, and that was months ago. Since then, it's been like a "Glass Floor" as one of my friends called it. I keep bouncing back up. Not only did I get below 174 today, but I did it big time, and I'm thrilled. Note: I didn't starve myself either. I ate well, and worked out hard. I'm very, very happy. I'm not naive enough to think I'll never have another bad week or weeks eating wise, but I know I have the ability to correct those periods. Two weeks ago I put on several pounds due to those periods of poor eating, It was a wake-up call and I answered it. Keep going.

Labor Day. The last few weeks have been a bit hectic and busy, so I was looking forward to the day off and doing nothing but relaxing. In the morning I suddenly remembered it was not Sunday (rest day), and it was Monday (Plyometrics), and it brought the mood down a bit. I did NOT feel like working out today. I was still feeling sluggish from the last two weeks of poor eating and my legs were tired and sore for some reason. However, around 4:15pm I forced myself to throw the DVD in. To say I labored through this workout is an understatement. I noticed my heart rate was higher than usual early on. I wanted to quit several times, asking myself "Why am I doing this?", but once I hit play, I don't quit. It's a rule, and I've never broken it. I wanted to hit pause about 10 times because I was out of gas and didn't think I could continue without a break, but I haven't hit pause during Plyo in about a year, so I didn't hit pause. I ended up burning over 700 calories for the first time on any workout since I've been keepng track. So I guess that's a good thing.

I felt real good during the workout. I was light on my feet and had great balance during the Kenpo kicks, which i don't always have.
Also, I played Golf this morning and consistently hit the ball as good as I ever have. I'm attributing a lot of that to P90X. It's definitely letting me hit the ball farther, but it's also giving me better balance and better concentration when I'm playing.

I felt sluggish during the entire hour, was behind on a lot of the moves, and couldn't keep my heart rate up. My average heart rate was slightly above Yoga X. Pretty pathetic. Round 6 - Week 13
This is a Recovery Week
MONDAY - August 23, 2010 - Yoga X
===========================
This is the last week of the Round, and I really wanted to do Yoga X right. During most of the Vinyasa section I was able to concentrate on my breath and movements more than I have in the past. Everything was going fine, and I felt really strong. However, I started losing concentration after the Chair Poses. I even fell during one of the Half Moons. The balance postures and crane were a joke. I don't think I held any of the balance postures on my left leg more than 10 seconds, and I'm not even sure I held Crane for 10 consecutive seconds at any point. The right leg balances were a little better, but not much. I was so inflexible, I could barely get into the Seated Spinal Stretch.. I did a lot of yard work yesterday, so that may have contributed to my lack of flexibility. Despite all that, I did make progress in the concentration area, so that's something to build on. Calorie burn was 535. A bit low for Yoga X, but my last few sessions have all been low.
TUESDAY - August 24, 2010 - Core Synergistics
===================================
I'm still not a fan of this workout, but I told myself before it started that it wasn't so bad, and to have fun with it. On the third move in, the Leaning Crescent Lunges, that idea started to go out the window. However, I still pushed myself. I realize I don't have to like a workout to work hard and get something out of it. I always sweat like crazy when I'm done with this one, and today was no exception. I burned 548 calories, which is about average for this workout.
WEDNESDAY - August 25, 2010 - Cardio X
===============================
Once again, I did the modified version of Cardio X that I tried last month. I did the warmup, skipped the Yoga section, did the Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, then repeated the Kenpo, Plyo, Core sections, and finished with the cooldown. A 58 minute workout, and I burned 573 calories. Cardio X never really tired me out completely until I did it this way. Now I'm dripping in sweat, and totally worn out. Once again, I deem the modified version a complete success.
THURSDAY - August 26, 2010 - X Stretch

I'm excited. Today was one of those breakthrough moments, one of those "little victories" I speak about. Why? Today I layed flat on my back during the Back Hero Pose. That's right, I was "taking a nap" with Shawna. When people talk about P90X, it's how good they look, how much weight they've lost, their six-pack abs, how many pushups or pullups they can do, how much weight they lifted, and all that is very important, even to me. However, nobody talks about the flexibility it gives you. No man at my age should be able to get on their knees, lean back, and lay flat on the floor, but I can. Thank you P90X. (Calorie burn was 193.)
FRIDAY - August 27, 2010 - Core Synergistics
=================================
Looks like I'm finishing up this round strong. I was up early this morning to play golf, came home and did Core almost immediately because I have to be out the door soon. Also, my dad had some surgery today that I was little anxious and stressed about. Just before I started the workout, my mom called to say everything went OK. So my heart was pumpin' a bit before I even started the workout. As I've mentioned before Core is not exactly my favorite routine, but I flew through it today with no problems (probably on adrenaline alone), and burned 646 calories, which is by far the most I've ever burned on Core, and the third most I've burned on any workout this round. I'm very pleased.
SATURDAY - August 28, 2010 - Yoga X
=============================
Today is my 53rd birthday and my last day of my 6th Round of P90X. I finished it up with Yoga X. The last few days have been quite hectic. I'm eating like crap and not getting any sleep, I'm still concerned about my dad, and the last thing I wanted to do after I got home from an 8 hour fantasy football draft today was 90 minutes of Yoga X. I've been so looking forward to the end of this round just to give my body a break, so for the first part of the workout I was thinking "let's just get this over with". However, at some point I did let all the other stuff that's been going on take a back seat, and I concentrated on making it a good workout. I held all my Warrior 3 / Half-Moons and most of my balance poses. I was in and out of Crane, but was probably in it more than out. By the end of the workout I was a lot more relaxed than when I started. The heart rate monitor says I burned 686 calories, which is the most for any workout this round. I don't know if it's because my heart rate is elevated because I'm anxious about other things, or what the reason, but if 686 calories burned is correct, I'll take it.
All that's left is tomorrow's weigh in. I'm not expecting good results because of the poor eating this week, but it is what it is, and I'll move forward.
SUNDAY - August 29, 2010 - Weigh In
============================
WEIGHT: 174.3; BODY FAT: 22.1%
I lost .3 lbs, which is a total shock. As I mentioned last week, I had wanted to get under 174.0, but I ate so poorly the last few days, I seriously wouldn't have been surprised if I'd put on 5 lbs. However, I did have very high calorie burns on the last two workouts, and I think my metabolism is at the point where I can still eat poorly for a few days and still be able to have it burned off. I'm not going to use that as an excuse to continue to eat bad, but a few days here and there isn't going to kill me.
I started the Round at 177.5 lbs with 22.7% body fat. Therefore, I lost 3.2 lbs for the round and .6% on my body fat percentage. Those might not seem like big numbers to someone looking in, but I'm at the point where losing a pound here and there is tough. I still need to eat better, which will get the body fat % down, so I'm not going to be complacent here, but overall I'm feeling pretty good about the results.
Combine all that with the fact that I increased my reps or lifted more weight on a lot of the exercises, even doing some moves I couldn't do before, and I'm very happy.
My only regret is that I didn't stick to the Nutrition Plan as well as I'd hoped to. I started out with good intentions, but kind of got off track and lost my way around week 3. I still ate fairly well, and had it in the back of my mind most of the time, but there were periods where I just didn't feel like taking the time to cook or prepare a proper meal. That's a mindset I need to continue to work on. I also have to decide how important it is to me as an individual, because there's times when being told what I can and can't eat makes me miserable, and as I said before, making myself feel miserable is not what this is about. I'm sure there's a happy balance somewhere in between stuffing my face with pizza, fast food, sweets, and junk food everyday, and not being able to eat any of it at all. I have to find that balance that works for me, and then stick to it.
The end of each round for me is always bittersweet. In one way, I'm glad I don't have to beat my body up for a while, but at the same time I miss the structure of the program, and the working towards the 90 day finish line. As in the past, I'll continue to do the cardio workouts on a set schedule until I decide to do my next round, but that may be a while. I started Round 5 on Valentine's Day and only took a two week break before starting Round 6. My body is pretty beat up right now and needs a rest. I'll throw some weightlifting in once in a while, along with some pullups and pushups periodically, but for the most part it'll be cardio for a least a few months.
I'll still be posting my progress through the Cardio period, but perhaps not every day. I'll at least post my weigh-ins and thoughts on a weekly basis.
I do want to say that posting on this blog has been very therapeutic. By doing so, I'm able to get my thoughts together, find out what's working and what isn't, and what I need to do to make things better. It's now become a very important part of my P90X experience.
MONDAY - August 23, 2010 - Yoga X
===========================
===================================
===============================

Round 6 - Week 12
This is a Plus Week
MONDAY - August 16, 2010 - Upper Plus
==============================
I came home and mowed the lawn before I did my workout. I normally don't do that during the week, but it needed it badly, and it couldn't wait until next weekend. I think it got the adrenaline going a bit, because I felt more energized during the workout, and I took a lot less break time than usual. Most of the rep counts and weights were the same as last time. There were a few moves where I did a few less reps (time ran out), and a few I did more of, most notably the Lean Back Curls (increased from 20 to 24 reps), and Bicep Everythings (increased from 30 to 32 reps). Calorie burn was 504, which is a bit above average for this workout, but they've all been within 25 calories from high to low.
TUESDAY - August 17, 2010 - Interval X Plus
=================================
I've been extremely tired the last few weeks, as I haven't been getting nearly enough sleep. I came home feeling OK, took a small nap, and woke up feeling horrible. The workout went OK, but I felt I lacked the energy I often have. I only burned 444 calories, where in previous Interval X workouts I'd burned between 445 and 478. My average heart rate was only 123, whereas my normal average rate is around 130. It seems I have more energy for workouts if I don't rest after I get home. I'm not sure what I'll do in the future. I guess I'll see how I feel from day to day, but it's something to monitor.
WEDNESDAY - August 18, 2010 - Total Body Plus
====================================
Nothing exceptional to report today. I'm becoming more familiar with the moves, but I'm still doing roughly the same number each time with the same weight, so it's hard to measure progress. However, I did feel a bit more confident and stronger today with the exercises. I still can't get the coordination of the Spiderman Jumps, but I'll work on it. Burned 560 calories, which is about average for this routine.
THURSDAY - August 19, 2010 - Yoga X
=============================
Once again, my mind was all over the place. I went through the poses OK, but it was almost like I was a robot, as there was absolutely no concentration on what I was doing. I burned 509 calories, which is low.
FRIDAY - August 20, 2010 - Legs and Back
================================
My last "strength" workout of the round. I felt a lot stronger going into it than I did last week, and felt I'd certainly be able to more pullups. I ended up with 84, which was 12 more than last week, and only 2 short of my high from a few weeks ago. I only did 17 in the last set of switch grips, whereas I had done 25 in my high week. This means I picked up 6 pullups in the other 7 sets, which makes me happy. For the record, on all but the switch grips, once I come down to the floor, I stop counting. On the switch grips, I come down to the floor after each two, then keep going until I can't get up anymore. Sometimes there's a 5 to 10 second break between trying to get back up again, but usually nothing longer than that. I never take my hands off the bar. The leg routines all went fine, but for some reason my balance was horrible, especially during the Sneaky Lunges. I ended up burning 543 calories, which is about average for Legs and Back.
SATURDAY - August 21, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
=====================================
A pretty good workout, but the uncoordination from the last few workouts carried over to today. I think it's just fatigue from a lack of sleep, but on some of the moves I felt like I was doing them for the first time. I was stumbling all over the place on the Side Speed Kicks, and missed a few of the reps at the beginning of some exercises because I was looking at the video saying "What is he doing again?". Nonetheless, I still burned 427 calories which is near the high end for this workout.
SUNDAY - August 22, 2010 - Weigh In & Abs Core Plus
========================================
WEIGH IN: Weight = 174.6; Body Fat = 22.2%
I lost the .7 pounds I put on last week, which I had gained the previous week, which I had lost the previous week. I see a pattern here.
I'm using a digital scale, which can vary widely each time I step onto it, so I weigh myself a number of times, and then take an average. Today I had one measurement at 169.6, and another at 179.6. How is that possible? I try to stand in the same spot each time, but that's almost impossible. It's very frustrating to not have that accuracy, but I've learned to work around it.
One week to go in this round, and I'd like to get under 174.0. I've only been there for one week in the last two years. I started this thing two years ago at 214 pounds, and getting under 174 means I lost over 40 pounds.
ABS CORE PLUS: Probably my best Abs Core Plus workout, simply because I'm becoming more familiar with the moves. I'm now able to concentrate on doing the moves, instead of glancing at the video constantly to see what they're doing. Burned 225 calories in the 23:09 it took me to do the routine.

Round 6 - Week 11
This is a Classic Phase 2 Week
MONDAY - August 9, 2010 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
==========================================
Today was a good, but not great workout. For some reason, I did a few less reps on some of the tricep exercises, but it was because I ran out of time, and not because of fatigue. I wasn't looking at my worksheets to see what I'd done the previous time, so maybe that had something to do with it. I only increased the weight on one move (Front to Back Tricep Extensions - from 15 to 20 lbs.) On all the exercises, I'm doing at least as many reps as they're doing on the video, except for the Clap Pushups and One Armed Pushups. I got through all 25 reps of the Two Twitch Speed Pushups without stopping, and I did 10 Clap Pushups from my feet, as opposed to the 6 from last time, so that's a step in the right direction. I burned 593 calories for the workout, which is more than I burned either of the previous two times this round.
TUESDAY - August 10, 2010 - Plyometrics
===============================
An average, non-eventful Plyo session. I started out a bit sluggish, but picked it up a bit. Burned 617 calories, which is about mid-range for my Plyo workouts.
WEDNESDAY - August 11, 2010 - Back & Biceps
===================================
I took a lot of small breaks today, turning a 51 minute workout into a 65 minute workout, but sometimes I need the breaks to get myself ready for the next exercise, whether it's changing weights, or just giving my arms a few extra seconds to recover. I started the Strip Set at 40 lbs, which I'd never done before. On the first set I was able to do 7 clean curls, but my left arm couldn't handle the 8th rep, so I put the weight down for a second, then finished the 8th rep. The other three sets were fine. I'm finding my hands are getting real sweaty near the end, on both the curls and pullups, so I'm thinking I might have been able to do a few more reps of each if I'd worn my gloves. I burned 633 calories, while my previous high for this workout was 596.
THURSDAY - August 12, 2010 - Yoga X
=============================
Things were a bit hectic at work because we were a bit shorthanded, so the last thing I was looking forward to was a 90 minute workout when I got home. On the drive home, I was thinking about how tedious it was going to be, when I came to the conclusion that perhaps the point of it all was to strengthen the mind instead of the body by controlling my thoughts through all that tedium. I went into the workout with that mindset, and it worked a bit. I tried concentrating less on the physical movement, and more on the clearing of the mind. The problem is when you're constantly telling yourself to clear your mind, the constant telling isn't clearing it. It's cluttering it up. I found myself almost going through the motions on the actual physical motions because they were secondary today. I need to concentrate on the breath and the moves. There were a few moments when the mind cleared, and I thought I had "it", but those moments were few and far between. However, they were there. I did find myself much more relaxed than during other Yoga X sessions. My Warrior 3 and Half Moons were almost flawless. My balance postures were a mess on the left leg, but perfect on the right leg. I held Crane for what seemed to about 30 - 40 seconds straight. I only burned 471 calories which is my all-time low. Thst's not a surprise because my average heart rate was only 92, where it's usually at 99 or so for this routine. I'm guessing it's because I was more relaxed. Not a perfect workout, but this is definitely something to build on.
FRIDAY - August 13, 2010 - Legs and Back
===============================
It's amazing what the mind is capable of. At the beginning of the workout, I wasn't looking forward to the pain of pushing myself through the pullups. Not surprisingly, it was a crap workout. I did 14 less pullups than last time. No excuses, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Calorie burn was 536, which is a bit on the lowside for Legs and Back.
SATURDAY - August 14, 2010 - Kenpo X
==============================
This was a good Kenpo workout. I noticed my heart rate was in the 130s much of the time, and I was sweating like crazy. As with most Kenpo sessions, I'm trying to concentrate on turning into my punches a bit more, but for some reason it seemed to pay off today. I burned 546 calories, whereas I'm usually in the 490s with Kenpo, and my previous high was 517.
SUNDAY - August 15, 2010 - Weigh In and Ab Ripper X
========================================
WEIGH IN: Weight = 175.3; Body Fat = 22.3%
A .7 lb increase, which is what I'd lost last week. I had some Twizzlers and Taffy at the office earlier in the week. Maybe I din't work them off. Or it could have been other factors. Water weight, Atmospheric Pressure, etc. I'm going with Atmospheric Pressure. Otherwise, I ate pretty good for the week, and I feel good, so the small increase isn't a concern.
AB RIPPER X: A good Ab Ripper workout. My abs started to burn on the Pulse-Ups. I was hitting elbow to thigh on all my Oblique V-Ups, and I did 88 Mason Twists. Time = 16:22. Total moves = 409. Burned 135 calories. My high for the round.
MONDAY - August 9, 2010 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
==========================================
Today was a good, but not great workout. For some reason, I did a few less reps on some of the tricep exercises, but it was because I ran out of time, and not because of fatigue.
===============================
An average, non-eventful Plyo session. I started out a bit sluggish, but picked it up a bit. Burned 617 calories, which is about mid-range for my Plyo workouts.
WEDNESDAY - August 11, 2010 - Back & Biceps
===================================
=============================
FRIDAY - August 13, 2010 - Legs and Back
===============================
==============================
========================================

Round 6 - Week 10
This is a Plus Week
MONDAY - August 2, 2010 - Upper Plus
=============================
This workout seems to wear me out more than it should. The exercises are hard, but individually, they don't appear to be that much harder than Classic P90X. However, they move so fast, I find myself hitting pause a lot. The Combat Pushups are a tough finishing move, and I did 14 of them. On the Lean Back Curls, I accidentally cut my weight down from last time, and did 20 reps at 25 lbs instead of last month's 12 reps at 30 lbs. I'm not sure which is better. Overall, I burned 493 calories, which is right in between my last two times.
TUESDAY - August 3, 2010 - Interval X Plus
================================
I'm really beginning to appreciate this workout more and more. There's still a few moves I don't like, such as the ones where you're squatting to the floor and jumping up, but most of them I do like. I get a good calorie burn for the time involved. Today I had to pause for a minute or so about a third of the way in to check on my dinner, but still burned 445 calories in just under 45 minutes.
WEDNESDAY - August 4, 2010 - Total Body Plus
===================================
This is the same situation with Upper Plus. It really wears me out quickly, and I'm taking all kinds of short pauses. Because the Plus workouts are more time based, it's difficult to increase your rep counts, so it's tough to see improvement from workout to workout. One way is to increase the weights a bit, but not all the exercises use weights. The other is to shorten the "break" time. Today it took me 56 minutes to do the 46 minute workout. A lot of that is writing things down and changing weights, but there's also the 15-20 second "catch your breath" breaks that I'll try to reduce down. I can remember going through the same thing with Plyometrics and Core Synergistics. I still am uncoordinated on the Spiderman Jumps. I just can't do them fluidly without thinking about where my hands and feet should be where I land. That's definitely something I can work on. I could also use better balance on my Balance Curls (left leg balance is horrible), and the Lara Lunge Crunches. I burned 544 calories, which is about average for this workout.
THURSDAY - August 5, 2010 - Yoga X
============================
I saw a YouTube video yesterday from someone who had been struggling with Yoga X, then tried to "clear his mind and focus on the present moment". He said it made it almost a different workout. I tried to concentrate on that idea today. The first thing I did was to make sure my heart rate monitor strap was tight so I didn't repeat last week's fiasco. Overall, my concentration and focus was better than usual, but I still have a long way to go. My mind was really wandering during the second half. I fell out of all my balance postures, and only held Crane for 15 to 20 seconds. But it's a start. I'll try and hold my concentration a little bit longer each time I do it. I burned 549 calories. I've measured my burned calories for 12 Yoga X sessions now, and it's ranged anywhere from 500 to 600 calories, but that's only a small part of the picture. Those are the cold numbers. I'm really looking for the "peace of mind" feeling to deem it a really successful workout.
FRIDAY - August 6, 2010 - Legs and Back
==============================
Was up at 6:30 this morning to play golf. Drove 27 miles there, 27 miles back, and walked a lot of the course when I had the chance. Did some grocery and yard supply shopping on the way back. Mowed the lawn, trimmed the bushes, and weed whacked, all without a break since waking up. For a lot of people, that's a normal day, but for me, I'm usually stuck behind a desk all day. I was still revved up when I started the workout about 6:20 pm. I have to say it was one of my best workouts ever. The leg exercises were the usual reps with the usual weights, but I felt like I was doing them with so much more energy than usual. I did 86 pullups, which was nine more than last week, and five more than my record 81 done three weeks ago. I'm very happy with the effort. I burned 596 calories, and the most I'd ever burned on this workout before was 571. An all around good job. A pat on the back to me.
SATURDAY - August 7, 2010 - Kenpo Cardio Plus
====================================
I did the workout in the morning to keep the momentum going from yesterday. As I mentioned before, this is my favorite workout, and the time goes by very quickly. I watched the Gladiator move before I started the workout, as I can never get it right. It helped, as I think I got the mechanics down. It's just a matter of getting used to it. I burned 384 calories, which is lower than usual, but I don't care because I enjoyed the workout, and I feel good and exhausted.
SUNDAY - August 8, 2010 - Weigh In and Abs Core Plus
========================================
WEIGH IN: Weight = 174.6; Body Fat = 22.3%
A drop of .7 lbs from last week, which I'm happy with. I ate pretty good for the week. A little half-fat ice cream here and there, and a hot dog at golf on Friday, but no junk food binges.
ABS/CORE PLUS: I did roughly the same amount of reps I did the last few times. I'm still getting used to the exercises and the sequence. It moves so quickly, that while I'm trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, the exercise is half over. I think once I'm more familiar with it, the reps will increase. I burned 236 calories in the 24 minutes it took me to do the 20 minute routine.
